The problem with the "standard" so-called "activator" scripts that implement the solution first described by Keldo in 2014, in my opinion, is that they make changes to a part of the MMI system that can disrupt other MMI functions if not applied properly (namely, the mmelauncher subsystem). Proper "activation" involves buying a license for the specific nav database version and applying it to the system with a new FSC file. What Keldo discovered in 2014 is that terminating the system process vdev-logvolmgr process after it creates the acios_db.ini file is sufficient to by-pass the normal activation done by the MMI3GApplication process. I haven't found any explanation for how or why this works to unblock (permanently) access to nav database updates, but it does on both generations of MMI3G (High & Plus) systems.I just got another B8 and it is time again to update the HNav.
On last car I've updated correctly to latest firmware and installed maps. But the activator was a nightmare. I did loose AMI and SD functionality on media menu, and nav was not unlocked.
Could you please help me and share a working activator for HNav maps 2022/23 ? Thank you so much
Well maybe I wasn't specific enough. My question was if this activator is absolutely certified for new maps, as it dates from 2020. And thoroughly tested by this community.Did you read post 1? Activator included.
This is what other activators say also. They didn't work. Activator screen shows, then maps weren't activated. After failures, cleaning scripts were attempted. The cleaning process didn't restore original state. The link above includes an activator file, but if you've successfully updated in the last couple of years you shouldn't need it. Note that the activator needs to go on a seperate SD card, and shouldn't be copied with the map files.
Thank you for all this help, it is greatly appreciated. I will try DrGER solution and inform the outcome for others.is that they make changes to a part of the MMI system that can disrupt other MMI functions if not applied properly (namely, the mmelauncher subsystem).

Or, you can apply my script that patches any MMI3G/3GP system to unblock access to the nav database permanently using Keldo's original idea, look for the ZIP file found here: GitHub - DrGER2/MMI3G-Navdb-Unblocker: Patch MMI3G/3GP systems to unblock access to an updated navigation database. --g
HiA brief comment on the process.
The update is a success ! Thanks to everyone on this forum.
Original MMI3G from factory :

I confirm that the unblocker from DrGER is working perfectly :

No need even to activate GEM, SWDL with coding ! You just need a 64(32)GB SD card and time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick walk-through for others with untouched factory MMI3G, easy and clean install with no tweaking :
1. Download the firmware 257_6_1 (Source : MMI 3G navigation 6.24.2 Europe and firmware updates - currently 2017 ).
Copy to SD card, insert card in MMI and proceed installation by pressing RETURN + SETUP.
2. Download latest map from MMI 3G+/3GP navigation 6.36.0 and firmware updates - currently 2023 Europe, but works for HNav too.
Copy them to a 64 GB SD card, insert card in MMI and proceed installation by pressing RETURN + SETUP.
(Note : if you only have a 32gb card, some 3G+ files can be removed).
3. Download the unblocker (DrGER, from this current thread).
Copy to SD card. After the MMI is fully loaded, insert card in MMI. Execute install. Accordingly to the unblocker documentation, have a look at the log file created on the SD.
4. Reset by pressing SETUP + ROUND KNOB + TOP RIGHT KEY.
5. Wait 5 minutes and check that the maps are unblocked (activated).
- Optional -
6. Get access to a VCDS coding device and do the SVM Fix : Generate SVM fix Code
Now you won't get lost so easily.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please don't lose time and try other methods on so called "nav sites" or ebay sellers who steal other people work. Stay out from torrent packages.
Other activators were a total failure for me.
An immense thanks to DrGER![]()
Yes it is a cumulative update. From 206 no problem.Just about to do my firmware update, did you go straight from factory firmware to 0257_6? Or did you do each update until 0257_6
Did the 0257_6 update and all is well.Yes it is a cumulative update. From 206 no problem.
But it depends from where you are starting. From very early versions it could be more problematic, experts could help you.
The navdb update is 90-100 minutes, typically. Hence, best to have a battery charger connected for the duration (and keep all other electrics off). Also, unless you are changing regions (NAR to EU, for example), deleting the existing navdb doesn't buy you anything except wasting your time. Same-region updates rarely introduce new (or remove deprecated) database files, and the update process deletes individual navdb files before copying the new version to the HDD. --gDid the 0257_6 update and all is well.
How long did your map update take and did you delete the maps already installed?
Thanks mate I will be using your activation script too once done thanks for your work 👍🏼The navdb update is 90-100 minutes, typically. You're welcome -- just don't call it an "activation" script, because that's not what it does. --gThanks mate I will be using your activation script too once done thanks for your work 👍🏼
