I'll add here that the devices AMP_LC_P and AMPLCPKO (for earlier & later generations, respectively, of the B&O amp made by Lear Corp. in Germany) are not changed since their respective production versions. It's just not likely that a software update will automatically over-write the firmware of a B&O amp in MMI3G or MMI3GP systems for B8 chassis cars, so the concern, IMO, is not justified. Still, it's worth noting before starting a software update. --g

Hello,

I just got another B8 and it is time again to update the HNav.

On last car I've updated correctly to latest firmware and installed maps. But the activator was a nightmare. I did loose AMI and SD functionality on media menu, and nav was not unlocked.

Could you please help me and share a working activator for HNav maps 2022/23 ? Thank you so much

The problem with the "standard" so-called "activator" scripts that implement the solution first described by Keldo in 2014, in my opinion, is that they make changes to a part of the MMI system that can disrupt other MMI functions if not applied properly (namely, the mmelauncher subsystem). Proper "activation" involves buying a license for the specific nav database version and applying it to the system with a new FSC file. What Keldo discovered in 2014 is that terminating the system process vdev-logvolmgr process after it creates the acios_db.ini file is sufficient to by-pass the normal activation done by the MMI3GApplication process. I haven't found any explanation for how or why this works to unblock (permanently) access to nav database updates, but it does on both generations of MMI3G (High & Plus) systems.

So, if you're going to use one of the so-called "activator" scripts attributed to Keldo or Vlasoff, be sure to apply to right one, since they ARE NOT THE SAME for High and Plus system. Or, you can apply my script that patches any MMI3G/3GP system to unblock access to the nav database permanently using Keldo's original idea, look for the ZIP file found here: GitHub - DrGER2/MMI3G-Navdb-Unblocker: Patch MMI3G/3GP systems to unblock access to an updated navigation database. --g

Did you read post 1? Activator included.
Well maybe I wasn't specific enough. My question was if this activator is absolutely certified for new maps, as it dates from 2020. And thoroughly tested by this community.

Please do note also that there are activators that works for some map releases only. So since the last MMI3G in my possession was nearly bricked, having a second chance with another car I wanted to be sure that it is working.

Yes I've read tens and tens of pages on this forum and others before asking. I've updated MIB2, MIB, RNS-E, RNS (VW horror) with success and many other platforms. Only the MMI3G is giving problems.

The link above includes an activator file, but if you've successfully updated in the last couple of years you shouldn't need it. Note that the activator needs to go on a seperate SD card, and shouldn't be copied with the map files.
This is what other activators say also. They didn't work. Activator screen shows, then maps weren't activated. After failures, cleaning scripts were attempted. The cleaning process didn't restore original state.

Please understand that I'm not the only concerned by this problem, and loosing some capabilities of the MMI (medias not mounting) at the same time is not a nice bargain.

For example on MIB Solution site, there is two distinct activators (_MMI3GH_ACT.zip and Activator HNav.rar). With no comments, how on earth can someone have knowledge on which one to apply ? On some torrent sites, the uploader certifies that the included activator is working, and some people cannot activate the map. To my understanding, he must have used some other activators in combination.

is that they make changes to a part of the MMI system that can disrupt other MMI functions if not applied properly (namely, the mmelauncher subsystem).

Thank you for all this help, it is greatly appreciated. I will try DrGER solution and inform the outcome for others. (y)

Just completed updating to the latest version.

Took the mega upload and removed the 3GP files and popped it onto a 32gb card.

1st time there was an error and the car couldn't see the Nav software so I deleted the software and partition and reinstalled.

Didn't need to activate and all working now.

Really want to say thanks to the people who make this available to us here.

They don't have to and it's very much appreciated that they do.

Hi all I'm in the process of updating my 3G HNAV to 0257_6 on my 8R Q5.

Will this map update work with that firmware?

Also is this the latest map update available for my system?

Thanks guys

A brief comment on the process. :D
The update is a success ! Thanks to everyone on this forum.

No need even to activate GEM, SWDL with coding ! You just need a 64(32)GB SD card and time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quick walk-through for others with untouched factory MMI3G, easy and clean install with no tweaking :

Pre-update : If you have BOSE amplifier this walk-through is not up to the task. Be sure to have enough battery, or let the engine on. Please note a standard battery charger has not enough power for the MMI system. You have to have a charger with "supply" mode. The map update takes several hours even with a fast SD card and will drain the battery leaving the car inoperable. For example "CTEK" brand have supply mode ones.

1. Download the firmware 257_6_1 (Source : MMI 3G navigation 6.24.2 Europe and firmware updates - currently 2017 ).
Copy to SD card, insert card in MMI and proceed installation by pressing RETURN + SETUP.

2. Download latest map from MMI 3G+/3GP navigation 6.36.0 and firmware updates - currently 2023 Europe, but works for HNav too.
Copy them to a 64 GB SD card, insert card in MMI and proceed installation by pressing RETURN + SETUP.
(Note : if you only have a 32gb card, some 3G+ files can be removed).

3. Download the unblocker (DrGER, from this current thread).
Copy to SD card. After the MMI is fully loaded, insert card in MMI. Execute install. Accordingly to the unblocker documentation, have a look at the log file created on the SD.

4. Reset by pressing SETUP + ROUND KNOB + TOP RIGHT KEY.

5. Wait 5 minutes and check that the maps are unblocked (activated).

- Optional -

6. Get access to a VCDS coding device and do the SVM Fix : Generate SVM fix Code

Now you won't get lost so easily.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please don't lose time and try other methods on so called "nav sites" or ebay sellers who steal other people work. Stay out from torrent packages.
Other activators were a total failure for me.

An immense thanks to DrGER (y)(y)(y)

Hi

Just about to do my firmware update, did you go straight from factory firmware to 0257_6? Or did you do each update until 0257_6

Yes it is a cumulative update. From 206 no problem.

But it depends from where you are starting. From very early versions it could be more problematic, experts could help you.

Did the 0257_6 update and all is well.

How long did your map update take and did you delete the maps already installed?

The navdb update is 90-100 minutes, typically. Hence, best to have a battery charger connected for the duration (and keep all other electrics off). Also, unless you are changing regions (NAR to EU, for example), deleting the existing navdb doesn't buy you anything except wasting your time. Same-region updates rarely introduce new (or remove deprecated) database files, and the update process deletes individual navdb files before copying the new version to the HDD. --g

Thanks mate I will be using your activation script too once done thanks for your work 👍🏼

You're welcome -- just don't call it an "activation" script, because that's not what it does. --g

Wouldn't it be a good idea to start a new thread for the MMI3G High ? The first post is not updated since 2020 and Adrian E is still around per his page. We could also merge the info of "MMI 3G navigation 6.24.2 Europe and firmware updates" and make it much simpler for new starters.

Seriously MIB updates are a walk in the park in comparison.

First, Thanks to all of you for this great forum and threads here

Second, well, I find it to late, my mmi 3g HIGH is not in function, I made firmware update K0257 and maps 6.36., activate it with wrong script (of course), after few attempts with scripts and script remove now I can't even see maps for 5 minutes, I run a INFO script provided here and in VAR folder I have
mmelauncher. cfg
And
mmi3g-srv-starter. cfg

NNo one ever say a word about this second here, and I see that I don't have becker. sh

AAnd FSC?

CCan anyone help me?

sorry for another edit:
I find sd with the script remover, and some files in it,but i'm not sure are they original or modifeid...

@Vlada33 : See post #369, above, and run the nav database unblocker script referenced in the post. --g

DrGER, thank you for your time and answers... Of course also for your unblocker for mmi

I'm little unsecure about running script before I back missing files, didn't read complete script but suppose that you understand that some files are missing, maybe script has some solution for that and also for unblocking?

Sorry for taking more of your time, (I'm not sure that you noticed) but I'm missing
Becker. Sh
Fsc
Acios
Is it ok to run unblocker now, or I still have to backup first missing files?

Again, I'm really sorry for bothering you with this... And thanks

@Vlada33 : When the normal activation process is disabled by the unblocker patch, FSC activation files are not used (or needed). My patch installer also checks to see whether the Keldo/Vlasoff patch was installed and removes it first by restoring mmelauncher.cfg and removing mme-becker.sh. And acios_db.ini is created by a system process when the system starts initially based on the installed navdb PKG file. If you know a little bit of programming language, the patch installer steps are in plain-text file run.sh in the ZIP file. --g
