Hi,

maybe it'll have impact on intake manifolds if not fixed = even more expensive repair.
I haven't driven long haul in a while, so haven't rushed it..but I would probably take it to Audi specialist if I were you.

Cooler change might help or not, it's also bit too complicated to change by myself,..
I think I'm gonna dismount the EGR valve when I have time just to check it, but I'm sure it's clean.

Here is good video on how it's controlled by PWM:

Again tested it today: if I drive on S-mode, no MIL. If I drive steady speed and easy on the gas pedal = MIL

I have the TSB and it cover the cars with mileage >40000km and the condition is error P0401 fixed and the engine lamp always ON on the Dashboard. In fact they did my engine firmware update at 36/37000 km . Unfortunately only at <60000km my cab has this issue. For me as they knew the problem they had to replace the radiator AGR PN.059 131 515 CC as the TSB recommended. My dealer told me to try to wait for an iphotetical official recall but I cannot drive a car with Malfunction lamps on the dashboard.
It seems that there is TPI released in November 2012 for MY08-10 for this P0401 error and it is regarding the EGR cooler replacement.
At least it should cover my car with CCWA engine, so I'll have a chat with the dealer next week.

Hi Mongs,

Keep me informed it should cover my car also. Do you have a copy of the TPI?

Cheers

I recall seeing this TPI before I decided to change the EGR cooler myself. There was a mileage limitation, i think about 40k miles. I was on 66k so decided not to bother trying to negotiate with Audi. Good luck to you, it really is a scandal how these faulty units did not trigger a recall.

What are they saying the fault is and why no help? Not related to the TPI?

It's related, but dealer checked from factory and they are not covering the costs (not even a new part!). And dealer is not covering the costs since it's 4yrs old car. Maybe I need to go to Ingolstadt to get some goodwill on this?? :)

EGR cooler changed (basically it means almost the whole EGR system), and the faultcode hasn't come up since.. Everything paid from my own pockets though.
Hi Mongs, im having an intamittant fault with this egr issue, throwing up the same faults codes. My 59 so not really worth my while arguing with a stealer.
What was the cost of the cooler complete?

Hi,
Anyone here have the part number for the EGR vent and the EGR cooler for the 3.0TDI 240hp engine?
I am having the same EGR fault codes like everyone else, I guess, so mind as well change them both if they are usually failing together, at one point or another?

Thanks for any reply.

Here another CWAA engine with the Check Engine light on and the 4807 error.

Indy swapped the EGR valve, but the light still pops on after a few miles after clearing the memory. I didn't have the cooler changed, nor have I had anysoftware upgrade, since my car has ABT software on it, and I don't want to lose that.

The independent ( used to work at Audi ) is looking into it. The car dives fine, but that orange light is driving me insane :wall:

He thought I might have to bite the bullet and do the software upgrade, and lose the 40 extra horses .

To be ecxact, the cooler hasn't been exchanged, just the EGR valve...I guess the cooler will be next ?

i think your on about the DPF burning/cleaning out, not the EGR
No, it really is "EGR cooler burning/cleaning", I use it every Year on our Q5 and still no problem after 60 000 km.

Call Audi and ask for TPI 2024204/7
let me know what they say

I booked time, but they are not free until two weeks.
TPI says: EGR cooler maybe cloged after 40000 km, so if the car has more than 40000 km, You have to change EGR cooler (not for free of course...).

problem still ongoing here. so far we have :
1 changed the egr-valve.... light comes on again.
2 software upgrade ( downgrade from ABT to standard, upgrade and re-map by abt ) : light comes on again
3 changed wiring loom, since my mechanic claims there's nothing wrong with the cooler : light comes on again...
4 cooler to be changed... will update when done.

Hi!
Did you replace the cooler unit by yourself, was it a difficult job?

Did you try replacing the solenoid (in green) first?

Forgive my technical ignorance, but what does this solenoid do ? Looks like it's easy to replace, and if it could be the cause for erroneous check-engine light, I'll just go get one. Just like some more info....

thanks

Had the dreaded EGR insufficient problem yesterday so it's getting blanked and deleted today, end of. I've also been informed that the swirl flaps can also be blanked and deleted so I guess that is something else that will be getting done sooner or later. If I have this car long enough it will probably end up with a distributor, points and condenser, the were the days eh, great on lovely damp cold mornings.

Clearly there was a batch of coolers that have a fault or a design issue that limits their lifespan. I think its a shame a manufacturer like VAG doesn't recall or contact customers with at least a contribution to the cost of getting it done, if only for reputation reasons.

Job took me 2 days pretty much. Biggest job I've ever tackled, but I'm glad to say I've done another 40k miles without issue (fingers crossed) since.

I'd be interested in the blanking out of swirl flaps you mentioned - i'm sure they will end up falling off soon! I know there's a refurb kit for them too.

One thing I've noticed since having the EGR deleted, I used to get a bit of exhaust smoke on start up before hand but now it's no longer there.
