Hi there,
I had the same error code and it was fixed by replacing the EGR Cooler. I had tried to run the EGR Regeneration program from VCDS but it always failed; i guess the cooler was too badly blocked. You could try that to see whether it clears it for you.

Hi Tom
and thanks for your help.....In fact the EGR Cooler substitution should be the solution...... I was deciding to order it because I don't want to give 1000 euro to my dealership. Its price here is About 500 Euro and a friend of mine will help me for the repair.
I didn't know there was a VCDS procedure for the EGR and I want to try immediately.
I'll let you know

Seve

Here some tests did by me.... I couldn't understand if my EGR is dead or not and i'm not sure if the engine must be on during these tests.

guys- I recall having an EGR related fault on my 2008 3.0TDi - there was a TSB for this to fix it for a known bad batch of parts.

Be worth double checking if yours is covered, or maybe was covered but the work was not done. If the latter I would expect a polite inquiry to Audi UK to make a contribution as is a known defect.

I have the TSB and it cover the cars with mileage >40000km and the condition is error P0401 fixed and the engine lamp always ON on the Dashboard. In fact they did my engine firmware update at 36/37000 km . Unfortunately only at <60000km my cab has this issue. For me as they knew the problem they had to replace the radiator AGR PN.059 131 515 CC as the TSB recommended. My dealer told me to try to wait for an iphotetical official recall but I cannot drive a car with Malfunction lamps on the dashboard.

same code again

4807 - EGR System: Insufficient Flow
P0401 00 [096] - Short to Ground

popped up again, it was gone few months after I replaced the EGR valve..
What do you guys suggest?

If you have changed the EGR cooler, was it because the same code P0401 ? Did you change it because coolant was being consumed? I haven't noticed any consumption on coolant.

I replaced the entire part 059 131 515 CC because the TSB suggested it and was confirmed by my AUDI Dealer not for any comsumpion of coolant the only difference was that my error didn't say "Short to Ground".
here the part:

I did it 2 months ago because the error was gone during the winter.

The job was done by my friend in 8 hours with the cleaning of intake manifolds(without a lift bridge) not so easy!!!!
Anyway the part complete bought in Poland plus labour costed me less than half of Audi quotation and the car run perfectly w/o any error.
Unfortunately I had a problem to the S-Tronic which costed me EURO 3900....but this was another history.

What about fitting one of these EGR blanking plates to stop all the crap recirculating anyway?

I can see the MPG being effected a little but it seems daft spending all this money on mods, mapping and what not but then having manifolds filled with gunk and letting the cylinders partially fill with noncombustible air.

Exhaust running hotter might solve some of the DPF issues!

Anyone done an EGR blank on the 3.0TDi or thoughts on doing it?

It might not be so simple from cars that have DPF, or at least you'll need modified sw if you blank the EGR
Yeah it will need to go back to the mappers for sure.

What I can not find anywhere on the net, Youtube or Elsawin are some clear instructions and how to remove and clean the manifolds?

People say it is easy but detail is scarce.

Hi,

thanks for the link, but remember that the engine in A6 4F is older.
Audi has done many updates for 3.0tdi engines CAPA, CCWA. Different EGR, cooling system, intake system..

When I changed my EGR valve from CCWA engine, it was quite clean as well as my throttle body and the car had done ~170tkm

Anyone know about the EGR software update. My indy garage told me there is an EGR valve update available for mine but debating whether to get it done. Car has around 56k miles on it and runs well...if it ain't broke don't fix it etc. but trying to find out what it's to prolong the life or just a timing nuance.

All,
Just started getting the EGR fault short to ground. It's a 2008 3.0tdi q just turned 90000 miles.
A previous poster said that there is a TSB to cover this does any one have the TSB? I have looked at the date on the valve and it reads June 08 car was new in Sept.
Would Audi still honour this as my car is coming up to 5 years old and high mileage? Or at least make a contribution?

TIA

My car with CCWA 3.0tdi engine

4807 - EGR System: Insufficient Flow
P0401 00 [108] - Short to Ground
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 81
Mileage: 180771 km
Date: 2013.06.18
Time: 13:28:40

So far I have changed the EGR valve, but problem was gone only few months after the change..so it must be something else.

Error usually comes up if I'm driving a constant speed / slow driving. E.g. 90km/h

Mongs,
That’s exactly what happens the error comes on when the car is driven slow.
Do you know if this has any knock on to any other parts.
I'm going to France next month and not sure if this will cause other issues.
Also not keen on spending that sort of money without fixing the issue as you have experienced.
As the errors we are both getting are ‘short to ground’, this implies an electrical problem but would it throw the error if the valve could not close or open fully due to being dirty?
What do you plan to do next, are you looking to change the cooler.

Cheers
Tal
