Yes there is autoconnect bluetooth device - TuneLink

Does anyone know of a bluetooth receiver that I can use that pairs automatically? I bough the one made by iSkin and everything works but it requires to be connected manually (by going to the Setting in iPhone) every time I enter the car.
TuneLink (for iPhone, iPad) also another for Android. $99

TuneLink Auto hardware accessory for iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad
Tune link Android Auto: Wireless Bluetooth Audio Car Kit FM Radio

I've had the iPhone TuneLink for over a year and love it. With the free app it can be configured to ...
1) not autoconnect,
2) auto-connect,
3) auto-connect and start playing music (it works if ipod and most apps were playing music (e.g Pandora autoplay works but last time I checked Slaker did not)

You do not have to have the app running or in the background at all. It is only used to configure the device. (If you are using the FM transmitter instead of AUX line, then you'll need to use the app to select the the station you tune to. The FM transmitter is best I've used but still not recommended because of the static).

Sound quality sounds as good as using AUX directly as far as I can tell.

It works fine with the OEM hands-free phone option.

If you have the AUX line and 12-volt power outlet in the center arm rest, this is by far the easiest solution. If you have to go through glove box things get little more interesting.

My Audi came with iPod connection so I don't have AUX in arm rest. I had to purchase an AUX connector for MMI from dealer (I tried ebay first but the one I got didnt' work) and then ran a 12-volt outlet from the fuse box that is behind the passenger's door. There is a hole in the top of the glove box so I didn't have to punch any holes or remove the glove box.

This thread (near the beginning) contains a post with link on how to do this. I bought a 12-volt extension cable from amazon, cut it, attached an inline fuse holder, and then attached positive lead to an old fuse pin to make it easy to plug into a free slot (drill hole & solder). --use a voltmeter to find a slot that powers off when the ignition is off otherwise you'll drain your battery. There is a bolt conveniently located next to the fuse box that makes an excellent ground.

It was a pain, but I knew if I had to manually connect every time I started the car, I would never use it.

full disclosure: the first tunelink I bought developed an overheating problem after a couple months of summer use. The manufacturer sent me a new one--I had to pay shipping to send the old one back. New one has been ok but summer is just getting started.

How well does the auto pairing work? I've tried multiple devices and the one feature I want they all fail at implementing that being the auto pairing function, the added benefit of the auto play of music sounds enticing as well.

are you using android or iPhone? I had an iPhone and switched to a droid recently and from what I read you can buy the iPhone version and it will work with the droid but not vice versa.

A5s support Bluetooth Audio with the Bluetooth Mobile preparation.

For those want a more expensive option, they can retrofit the Bluetooth Mobile preparation instead.

Yesterday I tested mine working with perfect sound quality.
Check the photos attached
I'm not clear as to why this is a more expensive option, it looks like a free option. Download the software update from Audi, install it to the MMI system and then you have the option to stream music "Audio Music Player" from your Bluetooth device. What am I missing regardign the expensive part?
Does this really allow you to directly stream A2DP to the AUdio MMI?
Has anyone tried to do this on a 2012 Q5? The page referenced (Software-Update > Mobile phone preparation (Bluetooth) > Mobile device database > Audi Worldwide) does not mention Q5.

Thanks

I found a solution online. It works well folks. If you are nervous about forking over the dough... this is my installation experience. I have nothing to do with the people who sell this. I came to this forum to try to solve the problem of streaming and saw a lot of other people are trying to do the same. This is the link of where I bought it. Audi 3G MMI Bluetooth Music Streaming - Home

As noted by others..... 1.) You cannot change songs through the MMI... only via Iphone. 2.) Volume control is fine through the MMI. 3.) Sound quality is very very good... I wouldn't say perfect. 4.) What you are really paying for is the cable that comes with the Belkin unit.

I'll make the original cable Warren designed for $80 shipped to the US. This is the cable that leaves the iPod connector intact, not the 'flyout' cable.

You'll still need to get a bluetooth adapter to attach to it. I know this adapter works and automatically pairs as it is what I'm using in my S5. Sound quality is good too.

Music Link Adapter

Just ship me your cable and I'll modify it and send it back. Turnaround will be fast and communication will be constant.

You can contact me at mcdanjw at gmail dot com.

Just so I understand, I would send you the cable, the BT unit and $80 and you would wire it up for me? Is that correct?

So the total cost would be:

$80 Labor
$80 New iPod cable
$40 BT unit
= $200 + shipping cost to you

Did I get that right?

Thanks

No need to send the bluetooth unit. Just order one and keep it. I'll test the cable before I send it, so you all you'll do is plug your bluetooth adapter into the modified cable, then plug that into your car, pair with your phone 1 time (code is 0000 on that adapter) and you're good to go. It will pair automatically every time you turn on your car from that point on.

If your car came with an iPod cable, just send it to me. Probably no need to order yourself another one unless you plan on using an iPod or iPhone hardwired occasionally (the cable you send will no longer work for that once it's modified). I don't see the need to buy another one once you have the stereo bluetooth working though.

So all you'd need to buy is the bluetooth adapter (keep it) and ship your existing iPod interface cable to me. I'll modify it, test it, and send it back.

What you'd have when all is said and done is something like this (this is the one I use in my car):
Image

Shouldn't take me but a day or two to modify it once I get it.

So:
Ship existing cable to me with $80.
Buy bluetooth adapter and keep yourself $40
That's it.

Anyone who is interested should email me at mcdanjw at gmail dot com. That will be the fastest way to get in contact with me as I don't check this board every day.

I had made this flyout cable a while back for my Audi ... it powers my Blackberry gateway bluetooth music receiver. Its been working great and I used Warren's instructions. Just step into the car and it automatically starts playing :)

Does anyone else need these flyout cables? I can make the "AMI to 3.5mm w/ Mini-USB" if there is interest for $50 + shipping from California, US. Please PM me or reply to this thread and if there is enough interest, I can start buying the parts.

I can also do AMI to 3.5mm w/ female USB connector so you can use other devices that don't miniUSB.

attaching a few pics of my cable with my blackberry Bluetooth setup.

njbrownguy, 1k Ohm 1/4-Watt should be good enough. Other selections there are for different power ratting or different package (surface mount, etc).

0.25 watts is more than sufficient for this purpose.
1K Ohm 1/4-Watt Carbon Film Resistor (5-Pack) : Resistors | RadioShack.com

These other choices are good as well, the only difference support for higher power going through the resistor i.e 0.5 watts or 1watt.

Then the other ones are for surface mounting on PCB. This will be the smallest but its kind of hard to solder them unless you are really good. So, I would not recommend these type. (NTE SR1-0805-210 - Res-0805 1K-Ohm Resistor : Resistors | RadioShack.com)

Hope this helps!

FAQ

Q0. Will this work on my Audi?
This flyout cable is only for Audi's equipped with 3G MMI. See description below

- The MMi 3G HDD Nav. This comes with High Defintion Navigation, 7" HD Screen, Genuine Audi Bluetooth, Voice Control, 2 SD Card Slots for music (up to 32gig per card) , DVD Player and Hard Drive for MP3 music.

- MMi 3G Basic DVD Nav. This comes with DVD Based Nav, 6.5" Screen, Genuine Audi Bluetooth, Voice Control, 2 SD Card Slots Slots for music (up to 32gig per card). This option does not come with a DVD Player or Hard Drive.

Q0b: I dont have MMI, and only 2G AMI?
Audi has a solution for this:

1. Which Option should I go for?
If you know the bluetooth receiver you are using, then select the usb connector it uses. Email me the device you will be using so I can tell you which one you need.

2. Im not sure which device I will be buying, what is my safest bet?
Go for Option D, it is a female USB connector providing power. When you decide to on the bluetooth receiver, then you simply use the USB cable provided in the packaging. The only downside is extra USB wire.

3. What do you use for your Audi?
I use the older generation Blackberry Gateway Bluetooth receiver and it uses Option A. As shown here:
Image

The newer Blackberry Gateway Bluetooth receiver uses option B as JAG836 pointed out in the thread. https://store.shopblackberry.com/Product/BlackBerry-Music-Gateway/ACC-41596-001

4. What is the price of the flyout cable
It is $45 + shipping costs from San Jose, California. Im using USPS Flat Rate Priority Envelope .. which is roughly $5 according to the website within US. So, most likely it will be $50 all inclusive. Its 2 day shipping and includes tracking info.

5. What is method of payment
I use paypal as of now.

6. List of Bluetooth Receivers that people have used and they AUTO-CONNECT / Auto-Pair?
Please make sure that the receiver auto-pairs each time after being pair'ed for the first time. This is really convenient and a must have according to me.

A. OLD Blackberry Gateway using Option A - Auto Pairs Confirmed.
B. NEW BlackBerry Gateway using Option B - As per RIM, this device Auto-connects but pending confirmation. See FAQ Question#3 @ http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2012/06/blackberry-music-gateway-guide/.

C. ... {I will add more to this list as people contact me and as I learn more about new devices, I know logitech has one and there are a couple for sale on EBAY, amazon, etc}

7. Do you plan to make complete solution which includes flyout cable + bluetooth receiver?
Most likely NO since bluetooth receiver is a personal choice.

8. What do you consider testing before shipping?

Checklist:

A. Make sure usb power works
B. Basic 3.5mm audio out works
C. Fader Check to make sure Left Wire is Left Channel and Right Wire is Right Channel.
D. Pause the music and make sure there is no static sound or buzz.

Just want to note that Im will be making these cables during my spare time and not trying to make $$ and there might be delay if I need to order more parts.

I am just want to help people out and I dont mind doing soldering and wiring. Also, I was very frustrated after buying an 2011 Audi and finding out that it does not support Bluetooth Audio streaming. With this setup, Im glad that its completely wireless and I can play music as soon as I step into the car. When selecting the wireless bluetooth receiver, make sure it does not need to be manually sync'ed each time you start the car!!

Most importantly, this only works with 3G MMI (MMI system w/ nav - controls on console)
