I really hope to hear back from the people whom I will be shipping the Cables to hear their feedback and make sure everything is working fine. (Im new to this).

I have some pending orders and it seems like I need to order some more cables and micro-usb connectors, please PM me this coming week, so I know the qty to order before hand. Im looking to ship my next batch if I have all the parts around end of July timeframe. Thanks

I got my cable from Harbirg today. I rushed home at lunch to pick it and my Blackberry Music Gateway up.

I plugged it in started the podcast I had been listening to, and I was a little disappointed... The volume was very low and the sound quality was not great. OH NO! I was bummed. Then I changed the podcast to This American Life and all was much better! Sounds great. I guess the original podcast I was listening to had bad quality.

I will say that the volume is still a little lower than I would like but I don't think Harbirg's cable is responsible for that. I assume it is either my iPhone, the Blackberry gateway or my Audi. But it is a little jarring when switching from the BT to radio for example.

Either way, thumbs up to Harbirg's cable! Thanks.

Thanks u2jrmw. Im glad its working out for you. Regarding the volume difference, I know that the connections are all there and it wired up good. There is some difference in bluetooth streaming over native playback on SAT radio/HDD/SD. I tend to use the bluetooth alot, so maybe I didnt come across it as much.

Im happy to know that the NEW blackberry gateway unit also works fine.

The setup doesn't work as well as say the integrated one on my Honda. That one both auto plays and auto pauses as the engine is turned on and off. Not sure if that is a limitation of the Audi or the BB BT unit. Not a huge deal.

Greetings guys, since this is the most currently active thread on here for iPod integration, I wanted to ask a question to the experts.

I own a 2008 A5 S-Line with the B&0 Audio Package, but NOT Sat/Nav (Defined as MMI2/MMI 2G as I understand it, since I don't have the joystick). Based on what I'm reading here, it looks like I am out of luck using the cable/Blackberry Gateway as described above. Am I correct?

If so, has anyone out there successfully setup iPod integration (either bluetooth or manually hooked up) into the audio setup I've described above? If so could you point me to the thread? I'd sincerely appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey there -- when you say the new BB gateway unit works fine... does that mean specifically that it will auto-power on/off with the car, and also auto-connect every time the phone enters the car?

Any (detailed) info appreciated. Thanks.

I have had some variable experiences, but it has only been 24 hours.

Most of the time 8 out of 10 times my iPhone has autoselected the BB when I got into the car. As soon as I pressed play on my iPhone it played through the BB. Those 2 other times I had to reach into the glovebox and tap the top of the BB for it to wake up... One of those times I had only been out of the car for 10 minutes.

It does not autostart my iPhone playing like my Honda Odyssey does when I get in and start the engine. It does not auto-pause the iPhone when I stop the engine, again my Honda does do that.

It does appear to shut it self down after some time, although I had one weird experience. I was coming back from walking the dog and the car had been off for probably 2 hours. As I walked past the car I was listening to my iPhone and it jumped onto the BB. The only factor here is that I might have opened the trunk before it auto-paired, but I can't be sure, and I don't know if opening the trunk would or should activate the BB. I came back a few hours later and it did not autopair outside the car, and the BB appeared off as I quickly looked in the glovebox.

That's all the info so far.

Just recently purchased a CPO 2010 A4 P+ and was stupified to find that a German Luxury car had no bluetooth audio!! My TSX does this perfectly as did our old Honda and Mazda! (WTH Audi??) So I've been on a mission to find a work around. I've read on AudiForums, AudiWorld, and eventually landed on w.ashcrofts post here and was like "YEAH BABY!". I've read all 300+ posts with joy and sadness of the turn of events only to be GLAD that harbirg has taken on the cause!

Mr. harbirg, if you are still performing this honorable and greatly needed service, you have a PM. I eagerly await a response!

(P.S. If someone can reassure me that my 2010 A4 P+ with AMI and no NAV, will work with this solution, it would be appreciated!)

I having the worst luck with the cable making process... Out of the five cables I made today, only one works. Quiet different from the first time when all of them worked on the first try. I had changed the supplier, not sure if that is at fault.

So, for all the people who put in their orders, they might be delayed. I need to sit down and debug each cable or change the supplier.

Streaming stereo audio via AD2P / bluetooth is already possible long time imho, using the "official" AMI 3.5mm cable (and a simple, bluetooth headset clip, like the Jabra clipon, or Samsung clip, etc. Total costs less than $50,- and no soldering, etc.

Then you can stream from many smartphones, tablets, etc your webradio, spotify, etc into the MMI/3G. Control app via smartphone, control volume via MMI/steering wheel.

Wanted to thank harbirg for answering my question from before. For anyone else who comes across the same dilemma as me, it seems we can purchase the following:

http://www.audi-collection.com/Vehic...treaming-Audio

As per harbirg, the issue is that this KIT doesnt work with 3G MMI, so they have to make the flyout cable.

Thanks for the help.

Right, but the 3.5mm cable does not provide power to the bluetooth receiver, so it must be one that runs on batteries and you have to replace the batteries. I think that's the primary difference that you don't realize/didn't mention.

Hi avreaux,

Did you ever figure out which is the correct ground pin on MMI connector? Is it pin 3 or 4?

Chris

Had the exact same thing my initial wireup, when I did NOT use the ground lead from the 3.5mm cable.

Coming from the 3.5mm cable should be an unshielded braid or copper conductor, with NO shielding on it.

Should be RED and BLACK and (unshellded) ... the unshielded/braid is GROUND.

You need to hook this up to either 3 or 4 on the MMI pins.

I forget which.

When I only hooked up RED, BLACK from the 3.5mm end I got the same weird frequency attenuation you noticed.

When I hooked up GROUND from the 3.5mm to either 3 or 4 it went away.

Actually left 3 and 4 loose and went out to car and tried holding the 3.5mm ground lead to either one until it sounded right.

Hope that helps. It's been a while since I wired mine up.

EVERYONE ELSE having issues with no "External Input" showing up, make sure you are using a 1 Kohm resistor and that you got the fine MMI flat socket pins back in securely.

They're fiddly bastards.

C. 3.5mm + standard male USB
D. 3.5mm + standard female-USB
E. 3.5mm + DC Connector (5V) [Not available]
See attached picture for the connector options.

FAQ

Q0. Will this work on my Audi?
This flyout cable is only for Audi's equipped with 3G MMI. See description below

- The MMi 3G HDD Nav. This comes with High Defintion Navigation, 7" HD Screen, Genuine Audi Bluetooth, Voice Control, 2 SD Card Slots for music (up to 32gig per card) , DVD Player and Hard Drive for MP3 music.

- MMi 3G Basic DVD Nav. This comes with DVD Based Nav, 6.5" Screen, Genuine Audi Bluetooth, Voice Control, 2 SD Card Slots Slots for music (up to 32gig per card). This option does not come with a DVD Player or Hard Drive.

Q0b: I dont have MMI, and only 2G AMI?
Audi has a solution for this:
Bluetooth Streaming Audio

1. Which Option should I go for?
If you know the bluetooth receiver you are using, then select the usb connector it uses. Email me the device you will be using so I can tell you which one you need.

2. Im not sure which device I will be buying, what is my safest bet?
Go for Option D, it is a female USB connector providing power. When you decide to on the bluetooth receiver, then you simply use the USB cable provided in the packaging. The only downside is extra USB wire.

3. What do you use for your Audi?
I use the older generation Blackberry Gateway Bluetooth receiver and it uses Option A. As shown here:
Image

The newer Blackberry Gateway Bluetooth receiver uses option B as JAG836 pointed out in the thread. https://store.shopblackberry.com/Product/BlackBerry-Music-Gateway/ACC-41596-001

4. What is the price of the flyout cable
It is $45 + shipping costs from San Jose, California. Im using USPS Flat Rate Priority Envelope .. which is roughly $5 according to the website within US. So, most likely it will be $50 all inclusive. Its 2 day shipping and includes tracking info.

5. What is method of payment
I use paypal as of now.

6. List of Bluetooth Receivers that people have used and they AUTO-CONNECT / Auto-Pair?
Please make sure that the receiver auto-pairs each time after being pair'ed for the first time. This is really convenient and a must have according to me.

A. OLD Blackberry Gateway using Option A - Auto Pairs Confirmed.
B. NEW BlackBerry Gateway using Option B - As per RIM, this device Auto-connects but pending confirmation. See FAQ Question#3 @ Getting Started with the BlackBerry Music Gateway «Inside BlackBerry Help Blog.

C. ... {I will add more to this list as people contact me and as I learn more about new devices, I know logitech has one and there are a couple for sale on EBAY, amazon, etc}

7. Do you plan to make complete solution which includes flyout cable + bluetooth receiver?
Most likely NO since bluetooth receiver is a personal choice.

8. What do you consider testing before shipping?

Checklist:

A. Make sure usb power works
B. Basic 3.5mm audio out works
C. Fader Check to make sure Left Wire is Left Channel and Right Wire is Right Channel.
D. Pause the music and make sure there is no static sound or buzz.

Just want to note that Im will be making these cables during my spare time and not trying to make $$ and there might be delay if I need to order more parts.

I am just want to help people out and I dont mind doing soldering and wiring. Also, I was very frustrated after buying an 2011 Audi and finding out that it does not support Bluetooth Audio streaming. With this setup, Im glad that its completely wireless and I can play music as soon as I step into the car. When selecting the wireless bluetooth receiver, make sure it does not need to be manually sync'ed each time you start the car!!

Most importantly, this only works with 3G MMI (MMI system w/ nav - controls on console)

Ok... I'm going to take the plunge! :D Question though, have you considered using an iGo USB charging cable, so that we can have a future proof power connector?

I'd like to start with a AA00 to use with the Belkin (ref Amazon.com: S. Squires' review of Belkin F8Z492TTP Bluetooth Music Receiver but if I change to a different BT receiver, just change iGo power tips. :)

Hi All,

I figured out the error on my part when I was making the cables. I should have written down the instructions instead of going with memory.

Anyhow, I made 4 cables this week when I had time. Im selling them to people who had pinged me earlier. Posting pic below

3x Option D
1x Option B

Im busy with work for the next two weeks but I will try to chip away at making cables if I can. However, Once September hits, I should be able to spend more time on this. Sorry for the delay, work and personal life first.

As a side thing, I bought the new blackberry gateway for my other car. This is one of the few Bluetooth recievers that auto-connect. I bought a cheap belkin one at first but it needed to be manually connected or paired each time, too much hassle. Good thing is that i can test the option B cables with the new BB unit now.

Thanks w.ashcroft for advice and details on the mod. I now have a Cerulean RX (still available on Amazon) with a moded AMI cable. One point of clarification, I used a 1K 1/4 watt resistor for this mod and cut the 6 Ipod cables to clear some room. It was a fun DYI! Thanks again.

Just want to shout out to Harbirg that my cable is working great. I don't think I have listened to anything but my iPhone since putting it in a couple of weeks ago. Thanks again for putting this together, I hope you are making a little extra cash from putting these together. Have you considered setting up a website and selling them? I guess you probably don't have the time, but the commercial seller on this website is selling for $150 including the BT unit. My guess is you could sell for $75 a pop. Not sure if that's worth it for you, but you could probably get a Squarespace site up pretty quickly.
