By the way the headlight switch is also directly related to HBA. 8K0 941 531 AL and some other ones too have the switch that has 8N7 PR code.
You need to check what your switch part no is and its PR codes

i got from elsa diagram but i dont now so well to 'read it' can any body can help me.?

my car (audi a5 spk 2010) has light and wipers sensor and auto dimming just the interior mirror.

i have a inside mirror with auto dimming and headlight assistant , and humidify sensor.

I have the switch called 8K0 941 531 AA.
I have managed to figure out that the "AA" version has been replaced with the "AL" version. However, I am having trouble finding if my version ("AA") is compatible with high-beam assistant.
Could anybody help me with figuring out if it is?

Mattias

Ok, feel that it is time to do an update.

For installing the high-beam assistant (a bit sloppy i have called it headlight assistant in some of my posts), you need the following.

rearview mirror (8K0 857 511, there is also a letter after this. From what I know there are 8K0 857 511A, 8K0 857 511C and 8K0 857 511E.
The letter stands for what software the high beam assistant has.
Apparently some people have been complaining about the assistsant not working very well, hence I would recommend the "C" and "E" versions.

Also you would need to replace your can gateway. Now finding the right one is a bit tricky, as the can gateway coverns some other functions in your car as well. Also, there is a difference between cars that have MOST (fibre optical cables, recognized by having a 2G or 3G nav system in your car), or CAN based (regognized by not having navigation in your car).

I have cruise control, rain and light sensors an a coupé, hence I have a can gateway called 8T0 907 468 H (has later been replaced by "M") in my car. This one I need to replace with 8T0 907 468 J or N version (J was the earlier version and "N" the later one). To find which one is good for your car, look in ELSA or ETKA (if you have it) and look for the PR-code called 8N7 (which is "audi code" for high-beam assist)
:)

When you replace the can gateway (and eventually start your car, the car will go into component protection mode. This is a feature Audi has implemented to prevent theft and selling of stolen parts. Basically it means that you wont have any interior lighting, the AC wont work (at least i think so), and the instrument lights will go dim. In the DIS you will have "SAFE" written.
The car is drivable, but you should take it to the dealer to remove the component protection (adaptation/SVM coding to your car). You can switch the gateway back to the original one and get a fully functional car again, but the error codes will still remain in the memory the ECU.

Also, you will need VCDS coding of the car/enabling the high-beam assistant.

You would also need to connect some cables, but I am sure somebody here on the forum can help with the elcetrical schematics.

Any questions? give me a yell (PM), or post in this thread.

Hi everybody,

I'm french and come from Reunion Island (in indian ocean). I have an A4 B8.
I'm intersted about this thread cause i've retrofited high beam assist on my car.
I've got the good mirror and done all connections.
I've changed my CAN Gateway to "N" one, and my Audi dealer unlocked component protection.
But there's still a bug, i got mess "dysfunction", and on vcds i can enter the 20-high beam assist and code it but when i do a scan it says that it could not be reached.

Is anybody have an idea. And is anybody know what is the signification of all the bytes when coding high beam assist ?

Thanks

I havent really gotten that far, as the idiot that I bought the gateway from on eBay sent me the wrong one on purpose (because it was a "better one"..?!?)
Anyway, I think you need to change the code in two places, not just on.
Central electric.
According to he information I have (although unconfirmed, you do it on your own risk), you need to change it in three places.
1. The actual gateway
2. Central elektric (09)
3. Steering wheel elektric

Although I dont know what in the codes needs to be changed. Maybe somebody with high beam assistant can help?

Really looking forward to this... Great job!

Do you think it would also work on the starndard Bi-xenon with auto leveling only (Up and down, no AFS) ?

It shouldnt be a problem, the only thing is now we need to find out how the coding is supposed be of the module, steering wheel and central electronics..

Am I the only one that thinks this is an enormous amount of effort for very little benefit? From what I've read, you even need to push the stalk forward to operate it, so you're not even saving the calories of doing that!

That said, we each want our cars to be perfect, so from that point of view I can see it's defensible.

Its not that you need it. I have done a lot of mods on my car that are, to be honest completely unnecessary. The read light LED retrofit was a complete waste of money. The folding mirrors as well. But that is not why you do it, now is it? I do it because it is a challenge to figure out how it is done, and it is fun. And it makes my car look better.

Now back to the issue at hand I have managed to install the Can-Gateway now (or my dealer eventually did). Now I have the symbol in the DIS with highbeam assistant on, but I think that I need something more changed in the programming. turning on the highbeam assistant in the central electrics module (with VCDS) does not seem to be enough? Anybody can help with that?

What can-gateway do you have ?
What is the number of your mirror?
Are you sure that you have connected the wires correctly?

Mattias
my can gateway is "T"
my mirror is with letter "A"
and for connecting i use the diagram from etka ...
any sugestion?

I think it might be that you have the wrong Can gateway.

Maybe somebody here on the forum can confirm this..?
(also see previous postings in this thread)

Hello, I am a little bit curious about how you did the programming.
I get the symbol on the dashboard/DIS that the Highbeam assistant is on and no errors in the DIS, but I have never actually seen it switch on (could just be that I have not yet been driving where I needed the Highbeam just yet.

Question is: How did you program the Highbeam assistant (via VAGCOM/VCDS).
Did you just enable the function in Module 09/Central Electric, or did you change something else as well?

Regards,

Mattias
