Adaptive light error on dashboard

Hi all

I have a 64 reg facelift 2.0 tfsi Audi A5 and it has just come out of its 3 year manufacturers warranty on 21.11.17. The car came with adaptive xenons.

However the other day the adaptive light error has come up on the dashboard , and when cornering I notice that it no longer works and also with full beams on the Xenons don’t move right or left as they used to.

It’s typical that this has happened out of warranty ! so I don’t know if I should give it to Audi to see what the fault is and if small pay for it.

But I get the feeling that they will say it will be a new headlamp and that could potentially be very expensive.

I have looked online to renew the Audi warranty and it’s 1100 pounds with the options I need.

So do I test the water and see what the fault is ? Or do I just get the warranty and get it fixed for peace of mind for 12 months also.

I’m not sure if I can hand the car in and if it’s expensive then take out a warranty ? As they may say that due to the fault being pre existing they won’t fix it !

Any advice will be appreciated [emoji53]

I believe so. I had the same symptoms. Everything but the movement worked and I had an error on the dash. Replacing controllers fixed it. Does it tell you which side or just in general?

Hmm that's why I asked where you were. If you were local I'd swap my controllers temporarily to check if that was the problem for you. Might be worth pulling them out at least to check if they look corroded, mine were dreadful

Driving home on Friday night and all of a sudden the error message went out and the adaptive Xenons starting working again but then stopped working yesterday ?!?

But today they are working again ? I am going to have to get it checked out as it may be a loose connection somewhere.

But having a good look around I can’t see any water in the lights etc so I don’t think it could be the jet wash.

Could still be corrosion, so now you have a dicky connection. Worth disconnecting everything you can find and clean the connectors. Then cover with some sillicon grease when you reconnect.

Gave it to Audi as had a leak from the headlight washers too, long story but when I had my mot done on 21-11-17 by them, I asked them to unblock my washer jets. Soon after I develop this leak. They stated that it has nothing to do with them, so a big complaint has gone into Audi uk and awaiting reply.

Cost of headlight washer jet leak ÂŁ289. They also found fault with adaptive lights it was the G78 level sensor on osf light, cost to fix ÂŁ309.

I’ll await for Audi uk to reply to see if there will be a goodwill gesture , if not the Audi specialist for prob half the price now I know the faults.

Level sensor is a ÂŁ90 part and easy to replace, they're trying to roger you good on that one. Found exactly where the washer fluid is leaking? Shouldn't be hard.
