Wing mirrors - auto tilt when reversing

I have the memory seat function, but I have noticed that the wing mirrors do not automatically tilt downwards when I engage reverse gear.

Is there something else I should be doing? The mirror selector is already in the "right" position as instructed in the car's manual.

Also, does this tilt both the driver and the passenger's mirrors downwards. I only ask cos it does in my dad's Lexus...

Only the passenger mirror tilts (kerb side). The switch needs to be pointing toward the passenger mirror to work. There may also be an ON/OFF setting in MMI for this (can't quite recall) which you may want to check.

Exactly what Dan said above. The selector button needs to be pointing to the passenger (left as you are in the UK), have you programmed it?

Shouldn't need coding as it is standard with memory seats afaik.

I think it's standard with all electric front seats (not just lumbar).

Yep, got the memory seats, i.e. buttons on the door.

I swear my manual says to point the switch towards the right.. In any case, I have tried both positions and still no tilting!

Hi Nik,

You need to set it first, basically stick it into reverse move the adjuster over to the left (definitely this for RHD cars) adjust the mirror to where you want it to go to. Then I think when you drive off it moves back to the previous position (i.e normal). When you next stick it in reverse with the adjuster to the left it should tilt back to the position you set it too. I can't remember if you need to store it or not - try it without storing via the buttons, if it works happy days otherwise try with the buttons.

Sorry if you've already done that but you don't mention it in your post, it will only move once you have preset it to your preferred position.

Hi chaps,

I tried this the other day, but it didn't seem to work.
Is it just that I need to try it a couple of times? or could be the spec of my car meaning that I don't have it?

I have a MY13, spec as per sig below. it has electric seats, but not sure if has memory seats (I fiddled around in the dark the other day, quickly, couldn't find any, just the eleccy seat buttons).
is this relevant?
I ask this as I've seen in some older threads that it makes a diff whether or not you have memory seats. And other views in the same threads that say after a certain year, all A5's should have it anyway, etc.

I looked in car info on the MMI, and it's deffo not an option in there.

Thanks in advance
I really miss this feature!

Thanks, this seems to be working now.

For some reason, it didn't remember the mirror position the first time I did it. But it did the second! Now too scared to touch it! Let's hope it continues to work...

Great, glad you got it working - I remember it took me a couple of attempts to work it out... :)

Hi Skells. I had standard electric seats and I needed to enable the reverse mirror feature by coding module 52 and it worked apart from not quite returning to the normal position every time. (Interesting VAG-COM codes for Audi A5/A4 B8/Q5, many for A6/A8/Q7 as well (by LoCal) - Audi A6 Q7 A8 A4 A5 Retrofit J?lkiasennus Nachr?sten Retro-fit)

I later installed a seat memory switch and was lucky to have the correct memory module (although unused) already installed in my 2013 car. Enabling the memory seat option through VCDS coding also triggered the memory for the mirror. Hurrah!

So, I think it's a case of VCDS coding + having the correct module (which you will have with memory seats and may have - like me - with standard electric seats).

Ah, my mistake - so just coding required then?

I thought you needed the seat module with memory so that it accurately remembered the mirror return position.

This function is standard if you have electric seats. When I state 'electric seats' I mean that all movements are electric, for example the forwards/backwards linear movement, raise/lower adjustment, backrest raise/lower adjustment etc., I am not stating 'memory seats' as these have control buttons on the driver's door. Standard on S-line & above models there is electric lumbar support but this is not 'electric seats'.
