I gather he's quite busy, but as he needs to make each firmware/software package specifically for each vehicle (and specifically locked to the VIN), it doesn't happen in seconds. Then he hand-holds in RT throughout the install, so depending on the time zone differences, there will be some delay.

I completely understand, I know every single patch he does is individual and must not be shared with others as might go wrong. At least I know he has his hands on and is in progress Soon I`ll have 3G+ for sure

just stopping by to say that this guy is maybe the only one in years that i see spending so much time on these systems and achieving so much! Astonishing work and results of course.
He started this work more than one year ago and had to go thru a lot of challenges. He went very deep in reversing the code of some components that very few out there know even how they work. We were discussing the work at every step that's why i can confirm that what he says is true

To make it even more interesting, for the first 10 MMI3G high conversions with GSM modem in them i will provide Google Earth map free of charge!

Interesting, I don't see that on my version, perhaps it's specific to your version of the maps? On mine, it doesn't look all that much different to the High version of the AU maps of the 2021 ROW (latest version available), although it seems to move more smoothly, less jerkily.

Hello @mj131 , I am a future owner of an A5 with MMI3G High. I have an Openport 2.0. Would it be suitable for the conversion process to MMI3G+ or do I need another scanning tool? My car comes equipped with the Bang Olufsen sound system. I have to flash it a specific way?

I have been toying with doing a hardware upgrade from 3GHigh to 3GPlus for quite some time in my 2010 A6 Le Mans, I was planning to go with an A8 4H unit but even after months of research I’m still not sure if it would work or not…. 🥴

I take it I need to PM mj131 a VCDS scan and MMI screenshot to gain access to the update.
How many posts do I need before PM’s are available?

Is the 3G High with GSM modem the unit with the SIM card slot?
I would really like to do this upgrade and was wondering if I upgrade my SD card only unit to a 3G High unit with sim slot what, if any, extra functionality that will give me?

Hey guys,

After a super long, 1 year plus development 'journey', there are finally some great news to be shared.
A custom software that is able to turn any MMI 3G High unit into 3G+ is now complete!

If you have MMI where the version starts with HNav, you are in luck!

After the multimedia unit becomes 3G+, it will have:

1. Bluetooth music, not just calls. These will also display track names on MMI and on the cluster.​

2. Ability to play video from SD card.​

3. Better, more recent & beautiful interface.​

But wait! Doesn't MMI 3G+ have a different hardware?

Yes indeed it does, and that's the whole point. This special software is able to run MMI 3G+ code on the MMI 3G High hardware.​

There are, however, some small downsides:​

1. MMI 3G High has only 40GB hard drive space (versus 60GB), this means, your jukebox size will be reduced.​

2. MMI 3G High has no WiFi module, therefore WiFi will not be available.​

Is that it? No more downsides?

Yes, that is it! Every other feature works just like an original 3G+ unit.​

Do you have a video?

Yes! However, the video is quite long, and may be a bit boring to watch.​

It shows a full conversion being done to a A6 C6 car, however, the car model here does not matter, as all cars that have MMI 3G High from the factory are supported.​

The procedure looks a bit complicated..

The video shows a procedure from an early development/release version of the software.​

In the current version, there are pretty much no steps and or specialist tools required, apart from inserting an sd card and clicking few buttons in the engineering menu.​

Sure! That is the point of this thread!​

If you are passionate about your car and want to give it a little upgrade, this is a perfect opportunity.​

I am looking for more users outside of my country to test this software and provide feedback/suggestions.​

Hello @mj131 , I would like to kindly ask you, if you are still doing those software upgrades. I would like to try it on my setup it is an Audi Q7 2010 4.2tdi (air susp, backup cam, heated/ventilated seats, basic sound system) I am really into these tech stuff conversions and I would love to help you improve last bits of your work.
