I have come to the conclusion that having 2 schedules, Oil and Main is bol!o*ks. Both services include an oil change so why would the longlife oil need to be changed so often. the difference in Oil and Main seems to vary from about 9000 miles to just a few thousand. Longlife oil in modern Audis should be good for between 15000 and 20000 miles.
Just a cynical ploy to get more money out of us I think
Many people on the west side of the of the big pond still believes that oil change should be done every 3000 miles.

Which is obviously too frequent with modern engines and long-life synthetic oil. However, I would never want to go 20K between changes. I'm not even comfortable with the 10K interval recommended by Audi in the U.S.

10k miles interval should be fine as long as you use synthetic oil.

shall check it in the morning, but so far 9k and 19k the warning has come on asking for a service. if it now reads more like 39k I'll be delighted. If it's not, I'll take it back to Audi!
Oh yeah, incidentally my service interval now reads every 20k so I'm happy.

Does anyone know how to reset the Service Light on this? I changed mine out in the garage but the countdown is still counting down in days instead of resetting it back to every 9k miles in soso days

There is an option in the MMI to reset the service interval.

From the manual:
Resetting the oil change interval display
– Select: Function selector button "CAR"> Service interval
display > Reset oil change interval.

How can you tell from the MMI whether the car has been set up for fixed or variable schedules.

Presently the MMI is showing a number of miles to next service / a number of days.

Did request a variable schedule, but have a worry that it has been set to the fixed, with the number of days being quoted also.

Can anyone clarify for me ?

No you can't changed it in MMI, only with VAS or VCDS.

Will happily get dealer to change, just not sure which service schedule is set at the moment, so was looking for clarification as to whether the variable schedule states days to next service, or just miles to service on the MMI

Can any of you guys set on a variable schedule confirm

Im in ireland and cannot get this figured out either. Car can from factory with longlife oil. Service indicator brought in me at 10,000 miles for first service. I was then charged for longlife oil and thought I would now following 1st service yet the full 'variable' mileage until next service but no, counting from 10,000 again and not variable at all. Dealer then confirmed that they had set it to fixed interval although still were happy to charge for the more expensive oil required for longlife. Anyway, he agreed to set it to variable at following service and he says he did. Im not sure though. I believe that when on variable interval, there should be no such thing as oil service & seperate inspection service and that the service indicator should only show distance & time to next service.
My car currently shows 8000 miles to oil change having covered 7000 miles since service so at least now its 15000 between service BUT the other indicator is saying service in 3000 miles ever though at last service I had all works that were required at major service carried out. It can not possibly be due any further work until it needs its next oil change so either the dealers cannot set the system properly or they are scamming us into coming in for work way too often.
Do anyone have an A5 that is on variable service & only shows the one distance /time to service instead of having distance to oil change & distance to service?

I was checking out when my 1st service is due. The car is 18 months old now and on a long life service. The car tells me that the oil change is due in 2300 miles. Service is due in 4900 miles. Looking at my average mileage I probably hit 2 years before I hit 4900 miles.

On my average mileage the oil change and service will be months apart. Looking in the service manual, part of the service is an oil change. Now if I get the oil change done first (with long life oil again) I assume Audi will not change it again a few months later! Is this correct?

My first oil 'service' is due in 21 days.
I gather they do just that.with a filter change?
Anybody no uk price?
Seems daft really my car doesn't have old oil because it disappears and I have to fill it up with new oil,so I'm doing my own very regular oil change!!
Audi innovation!

Just had my first oil change sevice at approx 2 yrs old ( 8800 miles ) also had a recommended air con service ( or was it con service ? )
Anyway now MMI reading 365 days till next service so I assume that the dealership may have set the system to yearly servicing rather than variable also the MMI is reading less than 1/3 rd full of oil , its going back for a software ECU update and a check on the roof wear as their computer link was down .
Be interesting to see what they say about the servicing interval .

Hi,

I have a audi a5 cab which is now 18months old and it is saying the oil needs to be changed at 4.6k which seems very early ?

Also does the oil change reset in MMI work and really reset the interval

thanks

Mike

According to the handbook the mileage and age work independently of each other and its a case of what reaches the service point first .
The oil change reset button does reset the oil change date but will not change the actual full service date .
I queried with the garage that mine was showing a next oil change service in 1 year after the visit last week and was informed that it might take a week or two to reset to a variable timing !!!!
As far as I can see thats a load of rubbish because I imagine the service tech forgot to set it to a variable interval that cant be done from the MMI reset button .

Was told today by an Audi dealership that all they did was drain the oil and change the filter and add new (long life) oil. He then went on to quote that this would cost ÂŁ201.94 :yikes: Seems a lot for so little work. I know long life oil cost around ÂŁ10 a litre when I last bought a bottle from Halfords.

The 20K first service I was quoted ÂŁ345.99

Hi all,

New to the forum having bought a 2008 3.0 TDI a couple of months ago. I'm also confused by the service/oil change intervals. I bought the car from a friend with 54k miles on the clock. I know that it was definitely serviced at 50069 under the long life service plan, but it's telling me that a service is due again just 4k miles later. The oil change indicator's telling me that there's 1000's of miles until the next change.

Can anyone please shed some light on this. Many thanks.
