@Ratzoi -- The Harman-Becker MMI3G BNav main units are hardware variants 9303 & 9404, mostly. This was produced by my MMI3G Info reporting tool:
Code:
[INFO] MU train name: BNav_EU_K0260_1_D1
[INFO] MU software version: 0191
[INFO] MU variant: 9304
[INFO] MU hwSample: n/a
You might consider running my MMI3G info reporting script and sharing the plain-text log file to a cloud storage site like Google Drive or OneDrive for our quick inspection; you can find the SD script ZIP file here: GitHub - DrGER2/MMI3G-Info: MMI3G Information Report Script --g
My version is not BNav is BBT_EU_P0054_D1, and i google it and apparently is MMI 3G LOW, not basic. I couldn't find anything about.

@Ratzoi -- OK, that makes sense then. No nav, so you're not likely to find much for this main unit. See this, for example: --g

Hello everyone, I have the version B_EU_P0020_D1. Could anyone assist me in finding the software update for this version? It is the MMI 3G basic system without navigation. I’ve been unable to locate any update versions for the software that do not include navigation. Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi there,

So yes I have the MMI 3G BASIC version.
The car is from 2013

I have read something from this forum I'm not just creating this post and off course the included 3G BASIC PDF.
I know about the sound-update issue, I've searched in the MMI menu but cannot find anything related to Bang & Olufsen sound system / Bose and in the manual also cannot find anything related to this.
If my sound system is Bang & Olufsen or Bose it's MANDATORY to use User Defined every time (after enable it in the green menu) or my car does not have any fancy Audi system and I can use Standard?

I am working in IT and this should be something that I can do without breaking anything but I have some concerns.

I have a few question if someone knows this or was in my situation:

1) I would like to update the NAVIGATION only. Do I need to update the firmware/software as well? Is it mandatory to update the firmware and the NAVIGATION or I just update the NAVIGATION?

2) I read something related to the SD card (FAT32) that it has to be full size SD card NOT an microSD card and an ADAPTOR.
Because if it's with an adaptor as I have it will NOT work (not read the SD card properly when updating??).
Has anyone here successfully updated the NAVIGATION with an microSD card inside an ADAPTOR?
Or it is known that it will not work 100% unless you have a full size SD card.
ONLY IF it's MANDATORY to be a full size SD card what should I buy? 32GB or 64GB? (only IF, because I have the 32GB microSD class 10 from Samsung).

3) I have this car since 2017 and NEVER used the NAVIGATION, always used maps/waze. My question is: is it worth to update the NAVIGATION? It will run smoothly? Will all the roads be there updated? This is addressed to those who updated to the latest maps and are really using the NAVIGATION from the car.

I am just wondering if it's worth the risk to try to update the NAVIGATION.
I would also like to update the firmware as well but I do not have VCDS to fix if something happens.
Yes worse case scenario I will pay someone 50-100 euro to to this for me, but off course I would like to do it myself.

Another question is can I clone the content from the DVD NAVIGATION to the SD card?
Every time I put the ignition or open the door the DVD is starting to spin making noise for at least 20 seconds and it's at least annoying.
Is it possible that the MMI/NAVIGATION would read the necessary data from the SD card and not the DVD?

I do not like Linux, I saw that there are some cmdlets there, I use only PowerShell at work but there I know what I'm doing, here not so much.

I apologize in advance if my post/questions are already answered, I will delete it afterwards if necessary when I have all my questions answered and I have no doubt that I can do this myself without breaking anything.

Attached is my version info, SD card info and DVD info.

I would really appreciate any positive answer to my questions.

Cheers.

@manutd -- Many other members have updated their MMI3G Basic systems successfully to software version K0260. It may not be a requirement to use the current nav database, but it is easy enough and poses little risk to the system. Regarding the sound system, while it is true that updating the amp/DSP software can cause problems, my observation is that neither the Bose or B&O amp softwares have been updated since their respective production versions, so it is unlikely that Standard update mode will just over-write the production software. Still, you can review this before starting the update and choose not to continue with the update if the amp device is selected.

Regarding the use of microSD cards with full-size adapters, these are discouraged because they add an extra point of failure (due the extra set of electrical contacts). Full-size SD cards are preferred for this reason. The problem with microSD cards is more likely to be observed when they are used to store the nav database on BNav systems, since they are subject to the harsher automotive environment during operation.

The last MMI3G nav update was released in 2022 (for version 2023); as such, it is already dated. But the BNav version will operate from an SD card (either slot 1 or 2), so it is easy enough to prepare, update, and use as a backup to your Waze. --g

Hi DrGER,

Thank you for your detailed response!

So firmware update is not mandatory if I want to have the latest MAPS.
Yes my only fear is the sound update.
I manage to get a full size SD Card with 32GB class 10.
So the latest MAPS NAVIGATION that I can get is from 2023.

Don't know if it possible to bypass the DVD so that the car will read the "DVD Navigation" from the SD card if I clone the DVD to the SD card, just have to try and see what happens.

So in theory this is what I need to copy these to the SD Card and start the update process:

*) BNav_EU_K0260_1_D1_(A4-A5-Q5-Q7) - firmware

*) DVD1-West-5.34.1 + Act_2022 ?+? 00040026 - MAPS/NAVIGATION
4G0060884AM(EUE_5.35.2_2022_2023) + Act_2022 - MAPS/NAVIGATION

Will really think a bit and decide what to do if I will go and really do it or not.

Thanks again and Cheers!

@manutd -- Why not start by trying to update your nav to EUR West 2023, shared in this post: https://www.a5oc.com/posts/1639937/ ?
Extract the RAR archive to your full size FAT32 SD card and insert into SD slot 2; the "update" should start automagically. After that, just keep the navdb SD card in slot 2 when you need to use the nav system. --g

For the Audi MMI 3G Basic system, the most commonly available firmware and map update is version 5.35.2 (part number 4G0060884AM), which includes 2022–2023 maps. A newer version, 5.36.1 with 2023–2024 maps (4G0060884AN), has been mentioned by some sources but isn’t as widely confirmed. To check your current version, go to Setup → Settings → Version Information by you should see something like “BNav_EU...”. More details and user discussion can be found here: MMI 3G Basic Navigation – A5OC Forum.

Q&A section
Here are some of the questions raised by the forum members about the update process that I might failed to explain in the manual.

Q. Do i need VCDS to do the update?
A. No, you need VCDS only to clear some errors after the update but the MMI will function correctly even if you don’t clear them out.

Q. I have a Bang & Olufsen sound system not a Bose. Does this also mean that i need to exclude it?
A. Yes, better not to update the DSP system.

Q. Currently no updates for North America?
A. Not for now.

Q. I have mmi 3g , version p0XXX can i go straight to k0260?
A. Yes.

Q. 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version - How can i solve this ?
A. Restart the MMI and remove the key from ignition then put it back in. The error should change from 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version to 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management.

Q. What are 03276 and 03175, will they affect the MMI in anyway and how can they be avoided?
A. 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management will appear every time when the software is updated w/o VAS connection to the VW/Audi servers.
03175 - Invalid Data Set will appear when updating the map w/o deleting it first. Sometimes this helps to avoid that error.
They will not affect the functionality or the sound characteristics of the MMI.

Q. Is there a way to use used defined mode w/o "Green Menu"?
A. Yes. In file metainfo2.txt in the root folder if you remove the line "MetafileChecksum=XXXXXX" and add
EnableUserDefinedSWDLMode = "true"
skipMetaCRC = "true"
the you will be able to use the user mode w/o the green menu.

Warning - At no stage I take responsibility of your actions or any of my notes that may mislead you. Therefore, and like my all other documents I say “use at your own risk”.

Cheers :wink2:
Thanks for the detailed guide! Super helpful. Just updated my MMI 3G Basic to 5.35.2 and the process went smoothly using your notes and activator.

VCDS
Hello, I have a 2012 Audi Q7 MMI 3G. The version on it is bnav_eu_p0206_d1. I activated the green menu using VCDs, but it didn't work on the screen and I couldn't access it. I want to update it so I can access the green menu. I read in this thread that if the system is lower than K0257, then it must be applied first before applying K0260. I opened the mega link, but I only found version bnav_eu_k0260_1_d1. I need a link to download version K0257.
In the end, all I want is to activate the green list.
If the K0257 version is enough to access the green list, I want it.
Attached is a picture of my system.
A picture of what I found in the Mega link.
Thank you.

Europe 2024/2025 are not available?
No. MMI3G is out of lifecycle. The latest is this:

Audi MMI 3G Basic (BNav) 5.36.1 - 4G0060884AN - Europe Maps 2023

Aha, I already got this one. It is not possible to convert other maps to MMI 3G Basic?
