Hi Guys
I am a new A7 owner and i guess like most of you i am looking for all the nifty tricks and mods i can do to my car.
One of the ones i came across was how to change the default splash screen in my A7 MMI.
I looked around the net and came across a simple way to do it.
I thought i would post a how to video and description in the hope that it may help the community.
1) Download this file

2) extract it to the root of a fat32 formatted SD card. it should look like this
3) Take a backup of your existing splash screens by performing the following
The reason i have added stage 3 (it wasn't part of the original documentation) is that it allows you to backup up the splash screens that are in your specific car. not really necessary but its always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.
4) follow the steps in the following video

5) once you have rebooted the MMI take the SD card back to your PC.
6) Now if you go into the "Backup\Splashscreens" folder on the SD card you should see a list of files that were not there originally. This is basically a backup that the script has taken of the splashscreens that were present in your car.
7) Create a .png image that is the same resolution and bit depth as the originals ( 800x480 ) (Bit Depth can be 8 or 24) I have not tried any other bit depths or resolutions so cant say if they work or not.
8) once you have the picture ready that you want to use you should rename it to "startup_generic.png" and put it into the "splashscreens" folder on the SD card.
9) Go back to your car and follow the instructions in this video.

If you have not enabled the green menu in your car (usually done by using VCDS) and you dont have a VCDS cable then you can use this script here (its how i done mine). Respect goes to the original authors of the scripts and their willingness to share.

7.1 in my case i had a picture already that i wanted my MMI to show, it was a jpeg and was larger than the required resolution so i went to http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-png and changed the size of it to 800x480.
