Hey,
Been up trying to find some information about the fantastic function, but cant determine whether i have it, once i do everything according to the steps it only goes to 1500rpm and nothing come out of it, has it been all used up or something? Any ideas or help to determine it would be much appreciated.

I have S5 30T Converible with Drive Select and i tried this and it worked a treat!! - did the following:
1 - Dynamic option on drive select
2 - hold ESP for about 3 seconds
3 - brake to the floor
4 - Gas to the floor - RPM hovers at 3k
5 - foot off brake...
6 - hold in to your tits ladies!! AWESOME

Me and the mrs were laughing out heads off with the kick - can't imagine how good this will be after I take car to MRC end of month for stage 2 and DSG remap

As for the gearbox i think its the tfsi

Mine is a standard 2013 s5, but no drive select, which makes me think disables launch control?
Cant figure it out yet, some people were saying it needs to be warm engine to do it etc, when i tried i think it was warm and still nothing... Dont want to mess up the clutch so didnt try for that many times yet.

You have to have the gearbox in S mode and crucially hold the ESP button for 3 seconds. The wording in the DIS changes when you have held it long enough.

Yup, 3sec hold drops it into sport mode and around 5sec disables it and I've tried it in both of them modes, still get a hover around 1,5k rpm...

I was at Audi this morning and in conversation to the guy about the new S5 - I said mine has launch control and it was awesome! He responded saying EVERY S-Tronic Audi has launch control?!!.... I couldn't be arsed having a debate about it, I was surprised to say the least with his statement.

What is the difference in tiptronic and DSG?

#16 ·
DSG and Tiptronic are not the same. DSG is dual clutch auto, whereas Tiptronic is traditional torque converter automatic. S-tronic may be another name for DSG. Tiptronic definately does not have any kind of launch control, but the DSG one should work as others have said.

Ah! Makes sense. Mine is S-Tronic as that's what Audi guy said today. I heard today that launch control will only work 250 times!!??? Anyone heard of that before?

#20 ·
That probably makes sense now, but no launch control :(
As for the set of launches i have read that the limit was set for all of the older models to 200 launches and you can get it reset via vag.
Well in any case launch control or not you can leave nearly any car on the road from the lights and thats more than enough :D

#21 ·
Yeah that's true - if we get to meet on a A5oc gathering, I'll let you try the launch on mine (it will be post-MRC upgrade too!) MENTAL :grin2:

You 100% have launch

I dont have Drive Select either but the steps are still the same as previously posted (below), except step 1 is just put the gearbox in S

1 - Dynamic option on drive select
2 - hold ESP for about 3 seconds
3 - brake to the floor (HARD)
4 - Gas to the floor - RPM hovers at 3k
5 - foot off brake...

You only get a few seconds to release the brake once engaged otherwise it cancels

If you cant get it to work then maybe hitting the limit is the only other explanation, not likely but worth a check. You would be the first person I know of to hit that limit.

Thats what i was told by a mate who had a4 sline and after checking i didnt want to mess up the gearbox, so thought i will ask, will need to try again probably tomorrow on warm engine, maybe it adds something to it... Will be good time to test new gopro aswell :D

That's interesting. I wonder whether Audi will do that whilst the car is with them for gearbox malfunction (nothing to do with Launch btw!) lol

They said:

"Dropping gearbox and stripping gearbox – 15.4 hours at £140+VAT per hour (additional parts would be needed)"

I'm sure they update any SW or FW while the car is with them anyway?...

#27 ·
Nope. The TCU upgrade Spensley mentions is an aftermarket dodge similar to an ECU remap. Does all sorts of clever things, like increasing clutch clamping force, alters change-up points in both D and S modes, makes you more handsome, and improves sexual performance... Okay, not sure about the last two.

Well i have tried it yesterday again, engine was warm so i thought why not, pulled up in car park, put the car into sport, disabled esp, foot on brake and gave it a rev - same thing, car started juddering and rpm climb was painfully slow... Cant get why it doesnt listen to me :(

#29 ·
well i have taken a video of it and i have noticed one weird thing, when i switch to sport on my dash i have M1 rather than S1 once it's ready to go, so could it be that the tiptronic hasnt got launch? cant fucking understand anything anymore... here's the video of it, obviously i'm not flooring the accelerator as the car just shunts forward when you do that instead of climbing up the rpm like it should

you're a nasty man Eamonn, dont think i like you anymore :crying: you're breaking my heart every time you post:grin2:

Do it the old fashioned way I suppose, clutch down, revs up, slam the clutch, see the clutch salesman rub his hands together...

I'm UK and mine is 13 plate, registered first half of the year if i am right. Cant figure out the gearbox looking at the codes either, so fuck knows, but as it seems mine is tipturd as some1 said>:)

Dont believe so mate mines a sportback and only stronics about when I was looking.

You can get a manual in the 3.0T in the early s4 with this engine but other than that all stronics - cab, sportback and coupe (which only got the engine when it was facelifted)

I had a Google and its really confusing, some imply s-tronic was introduced in 2010ish by the s5 cab, others suggest the opposite. It's a weird mystery

I have a friend with this same problem he has a 2010 s4 stronic transmission and no launch like my 2012 tdi Quattro.

Did some reading and it's possible you need update of software as already said. Audi also acknowledged they forgot to put it in people's manuals which was the image I posted earlier.

Rille like REVO or MRC do DSG remaps, which I'm confident would be up to date and then edited for performance files.

This is what REVO say about theirs:

Launch Control*: Take off speed increased to 4000rpm for quicker and more aggressive launches.
Drive mode: Up/Downshift maps remain very similar to stock but have the upshift point have been increased to 7000rpm. We have worked on increasing the smoothness of the transmission with the benefit of having quicker shift speeds with a more intuitive gear selection.
Sport Mode: Up/Downshift maps are calibrated for sportier and progression driving. Upshift points have been raised to 7000rpm with the smoothness and shift speeds being increased. Downshift RPM points have been optimized/increased helping keep the engine in it optimum performance range.
Shift speed: Shifts have been fine tuned to offer a quicker and more precise shift further engaging the driver with the vehicle and overall experience.
Manual Mode: Automatic Up/Downshift in manual mode has been fully disabled 2nd gear onwards allowing the driver to Up/Downshift as and when they please, giving more control to the driver and allowing the full potential of engine to be explored.
Manual Mode Kickdown: Fully disabled giving more control over the car (Excluding early 8.4 ECU equipped vehicles)
Electronic torque limiter Increase: The torque limit built into the factory software has been increased to over 500Nm. NOTE: these limits are not hardware limits, but built in software limits from the factory.
