I haven't got the heated seats so cant test this function but will let you know how I get on.

What is this component protection and what is its purpose?
Its to protect certain parts from are cars. So people can't just steal them and put them on other cars , From what I heard.

Thanks digzz, makes sense but also annoying for those genuinely wanting to change their units!

Yep...This is kinda new to me also ....as my Audi a3 8p never had any type of protection of the units like this.

Boydie Have you got your S5 as of yet ?

No mate, still have the S3 which is up for sale privately:

Used 2007 Audi S3 S3 TFSI QUATTRO for sale in Antrim | Pistonheads

I have Audi Belfast looking for the perfect S5 for me in either sprint blue (pref) or ibis white but the more and more I look at them I think ibis white would be on par with the blue.

No massive rush to sell the S3 as I've my wedding and honeymoon in July so just getting the ball rolling.

Old A3 like TT and R8 doesn't have integrated network of components, it's all RNSE head unit based, that's why it has no component protection, it's older tech.

The A5 electronics is much more advanced, but ut does make retrofitting more awkward,

@Boydie

I see in your description your car hovers on a regular basis?

How did you achieve this, I want it too!

I've just done a few test's with VCD with my old climate control unit and this new one.

As you can see it not only throws up the component protection which we know about but it throws up more errors to do with functionality of the unit.

This kinda feels like the Audi a3 8p Facelift Chrome Climate Control With the issue with air circulation flaps.

Plus the fact that the buttons are in different places.

I might do a DIY and see if I can change the chrome knobs and the Black LCD and swap the round with the old unit.

from more research I've done, I'm pretty certain it's a non starter.

i've done this myself, had to get the protection component removed, it's powering up now and everything seem to show signs of functions but there's no response on the heater or ac. the guy that fitted it for me said the module will have to be changed and he's next available in about a week and a half so fingers crosses.
the only buttons that are working is the heated seats and the rear shield ice defroster

I'm in the same boat.

It appears to regulate/control the temperature, but is unable to control the fan speed.

Could be a coding or adaptation channel setting, but without any controller coding helper or channel mapping, and a longer coding value than the pre FL part I'm a little in the dark as to if/when I'll be able to get this working...

I've come to the same conclusion also. I've even tried to replace the faceplate with big issues as the buttons are in different places back and front.

I got good news guys :2thumbsup:

I've managed to get the facelift climate control to work .

All that's needed is coding and protection component taken off.

So no problem controlling the fan speed?

Can you share your coding?

I've already got component protection cleared but with limited coding info available haven't been able to get the control panel to regulate the fan speed.

good stuff, so the coded unit performs all functions as factory fitted? (eg, auto recirc, sync, auto fan/temp regulation)

I can't share the coding as I had a professional Audi Retro fitter code it for me for a cost.

Fan speed and controls working fine .
