do you know how much soot can the DPF hold before it needs a re-gen?

 

Around 4g actual, 20g calc is when it kicks in usually. You have to pass around 30g calc to upset it.

Update to the procedure:
I have just redone this as I'm having an oil change tomorrow, and so following my own steps in the write-up above, noticed a couple of points that are worth a mention- as I struggled at first, for the following reasons:
1. I now have an 'Autowatch Ghost' fitted, so it wouldn't allow me to restart without removing the key which upsets the procedure, so you need to put it into 'Service Mode' first if you have a 'Ghost'.
2. My OBD Eleven still had the 27971 access code logged, but I needed to re-enter it and press OK at the start and then again on the 2nd restart.
On the first cycle when you long press the green button it will say 'Exited due to safety' at which point you switch off and restart the 2nd time, entering the access code first.
3. When you are in the 2nd restart it should then say 'Not active' after the green button long press & then you press the Brake pedal down really hard and then straight away very gently nurse the accelerator increasing in revs to about 1000+ without letting it decelerate & then take your foot off and wait a few seconds for it to (hopefully) kick in on it's own- and gradually accelerate up to 2000 RPM - once it does this then it has started so you are OK..
I had to retry this multiple times, but having already done it once I persisted until it finally worked- the fact that my 'Service due' light is on didn't stop it from working either.

 

Hello i have a5 2.7 tdi and it has lost alot of power it only revs up to 3000rpm it stinks of exhaust fumes and i scanned it with a basic reader it said p2002 dpf bank 1 blocked however i had no lights on the dash for this I've borrowed an obd eleven but it seems you have to have the pro version to do dpf re gen is this an update or was it always the case?Thanks

 

These sorts of more complex tasks always need the Pro version- I upgraded to the Pro version straight away as there's a points credit option I think but really couldn't be bothered with that- I just needed it to work every time- so for the extra cost to upgrade to the Pro version it was well worth it.

 

Ok thanks for the reply , I've booked it in with a local Audi specialist he said i would have a warning on the dash if the dpf was blocked and the code could be an old one. He said he would do an hour's diagnostic for reasonable price so I'll see what happens there.👍

 

I am struggeling to do this on my 3.0tdi -07.
Following procedure and it says "basic settings started"
Glow plugs light starts flashing

I press brake, let go
I press gas pedal gently

Getting error message "exited due to reasons of safety"
I have tried many times, no success.

Anyone got a reason for that?
Please help me out as it goes in limp mode more and more often.

And how would i do forced dpf regen?

Hi, i managed now to get it to "Not active"
When i press clutch and break hard, let go first clutch and then brake
Then press gas pedal and let go, it says active for 0.5sec untill it goes to ended. I dont know what im doing wrong.
I tried several times already always the same. It sas active and you can hear it wants to start, but drops below 1krpm and shuts off.

Remember you need enough (at least 1/4 full) fuel in the tank, engine oil isn't low, all error codes cleared and over 50% power on your phone as well- it's obviously found something that isn't within the parameters or you aren't being gentle enough with the throttle to get it to take over but you need to go really gently up to about 1000RPM before it takes over so only then do you take you foot off and it takes over- I was forgetting to re-enter the code on the 2nd attempt at first. It does sound like it wants to do it so worth starting from scratch and checking each step is exactly right- good luck!
If it does start to do it I would also leave the bonnet up as its gets hot- so probably a good idea to do an oil change soon afterwards too..
