How nice of Warrington Audi. Both Bexley and Beckenham Audi have surprise surprise never come across anybody complaining about roof wear. Hmmm..... apart from me:banghead:

Well very nice of Warrington, but my roof is now 12 months old, car 2 years old, and its back to how it was. So what was the point

So folding the roof when wet can cause permanent damage  so does driving into a brick wall but they do not mention that .
Seriously if thats the case with the roof and considering the weather we have in the UK how can the roof be fit for purpose ? and why didnt the A4 roofs suffer the same ?
Design fault
Has anyone who has traded in a car have the dealership mention the roof wear as a price reducing ploy ?

The reason there is wear on the roof is the stress on the fabric when folding, i think its a design fault. If you watch the roof folding its the tight folds that cause the marks. The bubbling of the fabric is the roof rubbing on itself. Having had a new roof and the marks reappear in less than 12 months im not sure if there really is a solution. If the info i got from having the new roof by warrington is of any use, let me know

2012 A5 Cab

Hello all, not sure if this is helpful or relevant but I will share it, got a 2012 model beginning of May for the wife and daughter, being girls they didnt want the macho S Line resulting in the roof not being the acoustic hood.

Iam wondering is the lack of extra padding helping prevent roof wear due to less material crammed into the storage box when roof down, and where it does rub together in the folds its a more gentle rubbing perhaps only a slight brushing together due to less pressure.

Obviously its only 6 months old, but has been up and down a fair amount, so far no sign of any wear just some very feint fold marks, similar to those on previous A3.

As I said at the start it may not be helpful if you have the acoustic hood, other than to demonstrate perhaps the design fault is the amount of material and padding in use.

Hi Andy,

I think your post is very relevant, I've looked through the postees who have said they have the wear and most seem to have the S-line/acoustic hood.
It is a little beyond my technical knowledge to agree that this is the cause of the problem but the more technical information we gather the more it slaps down the 'folding while wet/normal wear and tear' Audi claim.

Thanks

Just want to wish everyone a happy new year. Its been a long time since this thread was updated, so I thought I would do the honours! I have been handing out a few of the flyers that magi printed. I like the theory with regard to acoustic roofs having the extra padding causing the wear. I haven't seen any non S-line models to have a closer look.

Hello, I had my roof replaced last April and first of all I would like to say that some of the marks are starting to appear again, but I also have another problem, one of the elements on the heated windscreen does not work and I dont think it ever did it was only when the cold weather started that it was noticed. I had it booked in with the Audi dealer who arranged the replacement roof and they have said that the glass is not covered under the warranty and as a gesture of good will they will pay to replace the roof but I have to pay to have it fiited which is £600!! this is on a roof that is 8 months old. I am now dealing with Audi UK and trading standards as I am sure I should not have to pay for something that was faulty in the first place and is not even a year old.

Hello All, picked up a 2010 cab a few weeks ago and confirmed I have the same wear patches. Took it to my dealer who said it comes from the top and fabric moving around in the storage area as convertibles tend to flex more. He did mention that the top needs to be manually strapped down when stored but I have yet to find this strap. Sounds like another excuse but has anyone heard of this?

I had my roof replaced because of a faulty element when the car was under 6months old so they definitely fail . How old your car ? is it still under the original manufacturers warranty ?

Hi, I did not buy the car new but its just over 3 years old now and I had a 12 month warranty when I bought, it is still under this warranty. They are saying that the warranty does not cover the glass in the car and as this was not the reason it was replaced the last time then it is totaly different. I cannot understand how they can think this as it is an electical problem and the glass is part of a unit (the roof) but the roof is only 7months old, surely I have some sort of come back? Audi UK are rubbish, they offered no help at all and just repeated what the local Audi garage told me. I have contacted trading standards and they believe I have a good case and suggest writing to Audi quoting "repair failure" in the first instance.

So the heated rear window is not covered under the extended warranty ? is this an audi warranty ?

This sounds like a hoax to me. Never heard of a strap.

Yes this is a genuine Audi warranty as we bought the car from an Audi dealer. I have looked at the warranty and it clearly states that it is covered as the roof with the glass is a complete component and not seperate as they keep telling me. I have written a letter to them and will report the answer I get back.

I would say to Audi that if they cannot replace the window without replacing the roof then the roof and window are one and the same item. It's not your fault they designed it badly!

I purchased the Audi Cabriolet Roof Car Kit today. Photos below of the contents. I got it at the offer price of 18 GBP (the card says 20% off).

Basically the kit consists of:

  • Active Foam Cleaner, 300ml (aerosol based).
  • Fabric Protection, 300ml (aerosol based).
  • A Sponge (105mm x 180mm x40mm).
  • Insect Removal Gloves, 4 off.
The blurb on the gloves reads:

"Special gloves for removing insects, bird droppings and tree resin from glass and painted surfaces."

So I am guessing that the gloves are not for use on the roof, which is a bit of a puzzle for a "Convertible Care Set"!!!

Also the two cans are aerosol based. This means the process will need a dry windless day to apply or it's going to go everywhere!

Everything is highly flammable apart from the sponge (though that would probably burn well too)!!!!!

Is that an Audi kit or a franchise kit? Less than a year ago I was told Audi makes no roof protection/cleaning kit. Is this new? Let us know your impression once you use it.
