audi also do a fat arse damage repair kit for sport seats.........

I have just spent a couple of hours cleaning my roof and re-proofing it with the Audi supplied kit. It seems to work. Any signs of 'apparent wear' have disappeared . I do wonder if dirt in the creases gives a false impression.

Not 100% convinced... the jury is out.... just need my front seat sags sorted now!!

Cheers

RG
I have the autoglym 2 part kit, is this the same as audi use

Audi keep telling me they haven't got a product for the roof!

A lot on here only seem to mention the wear around the rear window, but I've noticed significant wear on mine around all the folding joints just as the roof slopes off down to the windows. I'll post pics when I get back from holiday.

Audi gave me two 300ml aerosols last week part numbers(?) 00A 096 301 A 020 and 00A 096 308 A 020

The former is called Aktivschaum-Reiniger and is a foam type cleaner which you spray on and then wipe off (I swilled off as well to remove white foam).

The second can Stoff-Impragnierung is the waterproofer (smells great if you are a glue sniffer) worked on wife's new suede boots too.

Will see how it works over next few weeks.

I don't know what it costs!!!

Cheers

Audi UK told me that these existed. When I asked my local service department they had not heard of it, however the parts department found the two aerosols which sounds similar to what you have. I did not buy (yes buy) them at the time because I was not convinced on how to keep an aerosol spray under control and stopping it going everywhere!!!

I use the Autoglym 2 part kit too, might switch as it seems better?

Handy to have the part numbers though for future reference...

Hi Chris

Having looked at my roof again today it looks a lot better BUT this is not the treatment the dealer did a few months back. Then they 're-waxed' the roof and it hid a lot of the wear marks. Will talk to them in the week and see if I can find out more.

Would be interesting to find out how much the 2 cans they gave me will cost to buy.

Cheers

I wish I had written it down now! :( From memory (this was a while ago) both cans were no more than 15GBP each.

Dealer is considering the wear on my roof . In fact they have been considering it for the last 3-4 weeks .
Audi CS gave the same rubbish they have given everybody , normal wear and folding roof when wet ( well that cuts out most of the year in the UK :) )
My roof was replaced at 6 mths due to fault in rear demister , I mentioned the wear 18mths later at first service but it somehow fell into a dealership void . I mentioned it again at MOT as it appeared to be worse .
Supposedly they are looking at some sort of good will gesture but :wall:

There is no solution to the roof problem, its a design fault, getting the roof replaced will do nothing

I look forward to your update. The latest here is I finally got Audi to admit there is a problem, because Audi UK now agrees with me, that replacing the roof won't solve the issue and the wear will come back.

The engineer stated the hood consists of 3 layers. The 2nd layer being the waterproof layer. So wasn't concerned over a potential leak.

When I raised the point of resale value, a good will measure was mentioned that would offer some discount on either a repair or replacement. No percentages were mentioned and I was promised a letter confirming the good will measure but as of yet have not received anything.

The plot thickens!

Seems you, thetoothdoc & I have all been offered a goodwill guesture.

Coincidence or what ?

Actually they are "considering" a good will gesture , but every time I phone the service agent has yet to confirm with the dealership .
Whilst a new roof isnt going to cure the problem it will definitely help the retail value , the car is 3 years old , one year left on finance so its probably going in one year . A one year old roof is not going to show the same degree of wear as a four year old roof .
What we really need is the numbers of owners having these problems , there has to be a number that moves up from a level of acceptable wear to design fault ?

Good point re resale value. The thing I find most annoying is at all stages from dealership to Audi UK, everyone says they have never come across the problem before,so on that basis they fob you off with must be your fault and used the roof when it was wet.

First apologies for jumping to conclusions.

I did do a rough count on the number of members here worldwide who say they have the same problem. Of the 20 or so –correct me if I’m wrong- little have had any success with this issue.
I have to contact my contact today and will raise your issue about how many complaints it will take to address the acceptable wear verses design fault. Replacement obviously doesn’t solve the problem either!.

After 5 complaints Audi will look into any problem and this has been done in this case of the UK. The problem we have is proving what causes the friction, if they test the cars for 100k miles before releasing out to dealers did they test them on a nice flat track or good old council maintained potholes.

I have been trying to find out what Audi AG use in the factory for the waterproofing but suspect that it will be a trade secret. I’ll post up any information if I find out.
Also interesting is that now they give all new cab owners a complimentary roof pack, I wonder why.

magi..this roof pack .. should I have got one when I got my FL cab in April?

Possibly, not sure when this decision was made could well have been only recently. It 's probably a Auto Glym pack.

I was offered a good will gesture when I raised the issue with Audi UK. They agreed to meet 50% of the costs to replace the roof. As I knew people were having their roofs replaced under their warranties, told them to, politely, shove it!

It would still have been a 3000+GBP bill at the end of the day too!

Well I received my letter today from Audi UK. They have concluded the issue is fluff and flock formation and has not been caused by a manufacturing defect, but as a result of wear and tear.
The goodwill gesture consists of a financial support if the situation arises. However the level of contribution will be dependant on the age of the vehicle at the time.

Very disappointed with Audi. So every time I lower the roof I know it will make the situation worst.

So is it going to be an Autocar , Watchdog ( even if you hate the show ) Trading standards issue ?
As Christopher said paying 50% to replace a roof that is going to wear again is not a good deal . In fact paying anything in my opinion is probably a non starter .
My car has only done 15,000 miles in 3 years , only a fraction of this would be with the roof down so its not like its normal wear .
Folding a roof only when its completely dry shouldnt be an answer , it would mean even less open top driving with the weather we have here , I have never folded it when "wet" but it might have been damp .
