I was at a very mod friendly dealer today talking about the stasis upgrade. They warned me that Audi is now looking out for ecu flashes and as soon as the service guys hook up the ecu to their computers a message is being sent to Audi and they are immediately voiding the warrantee!just in the last two weeks. Scaring me away from any ecu tunes now and if ur out there and have one, be careful!

Not exactly. Stasis has their own warranty that runs through Stasis authorized Audi dealers. Their changes are also approved by Audi of America. I spoke to the Stasis guy that did my changes and he said it's a non issue. Audi covers it but even if they didn't then Stasis covers it. It's one of the reasons you pay more for the Stasis change then the other ones. Warranty isn't affected.

this was a mod friendly but not an authorized stasis dealer. . .and they had just serviced a stasis tuned car and immediately got a message from audi that the warranty was voided. I asked about the stasis warranty and the guys said that the mod voids the entire powertrain warranty and so while stasis would cover some things, if say the clutch went, audi wouldn't cover it and neither would stasis. . .so i'm a little confused as to what's real, but it sounds pretty bad. . .and this was from audi service guys who's cars are ALL modded heavily, and who very easily could have sold me the ECU reflash by spinning the story the other way.

Life is a gamble roll the dice as long as the car isn't brand new

Wow, seems pretty crazy. I can understand if an issue were to come up, then void the warrantee, but a message popping up automatically and instantly voiding the warrantee is nuts. I'm worried now.

Yes, An ECU tune is a software upgrade. AWE's GIAC tune comes with a handheld cable that allows you to switch the ECU back to stock with a touch of a button. But what is being said here is that Audi can still detect changes in the ECU even if you change the ECU back to stock when brought to the dealer. I for one Still went and got my ECU tune 2 days ago after reading this post. If i was planning on selling or trading my car in a couple years then i would probaly not have done this, But i plan on keeping her for Many, Many years to come.

SUBCHAPTER G: RULES, REGULATIONS, STATEMENTS AND INTERPRETATIONS UNDER THE MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT (as promulgated by the FTC)
§ 700.10 Section 102(c).
(c) No warrantor may condition the continued validity of a warranty on the use of only authorized repair service and/or authorized replacement parts for non-warranty service and maintenance. For example, provisions such as, “This warranty is void if service is performed by anyone other than an authorized ‘ABC’ dealer and all replacement parts must be genuine ‘ABC’ parts,” and the like, are prohibited where the service or parts are not covered by the warranty. These provisions violate the Act in two ways. First, they violate the section 102 (c) ban against tying arrangements. Second, such provisions are deceptive under section 110 of the Act, because a warrantor cannot, as a matter of law, avoid liability under a written warranty where a defect is unrelated to the use by a consumer of “unauthorized” articles or service. This does not preclude a warrantor from expressly excluding liability for defects or damage caused by such “unauthorized” articles or service; nor does it preclude the warrantor from denying liability where the warrantor can demonstrate that the defect or damage was so caused.

*A tying arrangement is a provision which would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty.

The above post does not constitute legal advice.

Once you come in for a service and they plug into your port it finds out that the car has been modded. This by itself does not void your warranty but Audi corporate is now aware that you have changed the tune and if you have any powertrain issues they can and most probably tell, you good luck but that does not void any other warranty issues besides powertrain. As told to me today by my very knowledgeable and trusted Audi tech.
