Where to buy VAG-COM cable?

Where is the best place to buy a VAG-COM cable from experience?

I have seen loads on Ebay for reasonable money however after having a conversation with a friend I was told that the cheaper cables found on Ebay do not always work correctly so I am inclined to avoid these.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello mate i have just bought a genuine one yesterday and im waiting for delivery. Got it from here: Vagcom.biz for ÂŁ230 all-in.

A great price, cheaper than the official uk distributors:

ÂŁ264.95 here: VCDS (VAG-COM) USB PC diagnostics package for VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda cars (1996 on)

ÂŁ264 here: Marshall's Industrial - Volkswagen powersystems and components distributor for the UK. IMPCO Gas products Distributor

ÂŁ263.16 here: Buy the official Ross-Tech VCDS / VAG-COM diagnostic tool in the ilexa web shop

Like you i wanted to avoid ebay which is riddled with fakes from china for various prices, I reckon if 10 people bought from the various sellers on ebay 1 might get a genuine cable for a good price, i dont reckon many will take that chance!!

Good Luck!

Are you happy with the one you've ordered? Site looks a bit iffy so just want to check yours is good before I order one!

I did not realise that the cable would be so expensive!

That's put me off slightly as I only want to enable the passenger mirror tilt in reverse so at ÂŁ230 it would be hard to justify.

Does anyone know if Audi would be prepared to carry out this modification while the car is in under servicing for a fee?

#4 · (Edited)
mine does the tilt in reverse anyway and the car is standard as far as I know..58 plate.

Actually I'm amazed how much you can do..this is my first audi as I've always has Fords buit will never go back to Ford EVER since I bought my coupe 3 weeks ago.

I've thought about getting a Vag-com cable but I'm really afraid about screwing things up!

Unfortunately the feature was a cost option at the factory which to be honest really should have been a standard feature on a ÂŁ30k+ car.

I've had it on previous cars and really miss it now when trying to avoid scraping the alloys on kerbs while parking.

I guess a good question to ask would be would a cheap cable be suffice just to make the mirror tilt mod?

Thanks,

Why not see if you can meet up with someone from here that has one?

It's not the cable itself that's expensive it's the software licensing that's built into the cable that is the expensive part.

It is expensive for what it is mate i agree, i too was going to find a local forum member and have some things activated for a crate of beer, but the nearest wasn't very near.

So considering petrol money and a crate of beer or small fee, then how much you could make here and there off people nearby wanting use of your cable, plus the benefits of fault diagnosis on any problems that arise on your car (this can be pricey out of warranty), and what you could sell your cable for if you dont need it anymore, over time it can be worth it....

.....sure im preaching to the choir tho!

I'm certain it's a feature combined with electric memory seats however as you have established it can be enabled to a fashion with VCDS.

#11 ·
You get the mirror tilt with powered memory seats. I too am hoping to get some VAG-COM work done, I think Mulski A5_OC - View Profile: Mulski might help at the weekend?

It looks like VAG-COM only works with Windows (hate Windows) and I only have Macs...

Also, do all the published mods work on the FL 2012 3G MMI?

#12 ·
ahh..that explains why I have it..I have the memory seats..cool option to have although would like both mirrors to dip instead of just the nearside mirror

I've used a Mac since late 09. Yes you do need to run windows in a VM but having tried both I find Parallels the better product.

You can use the OSX included Boot Camp which is free.

#16 ·
Yes I have the latest release of Parallels.

They keep doing special offer for upgrade - Do you not get the emails?

#17 ·
yes, I did get those email-offers too.
however, PD6 is working just fine and VCDS is the only thing I use it for.
so, I have not upgreded.
may be later in the year when we can go over to Mountain Lion :)

I found the newer version a little slicker in Coherence mode.

I have an SSD as well so it's pretty rapid anyway :running::moped:

Have you seen the RT demo videos of VCDS working on an Android phone? They are developing a mobile solution but I don't know far it has progressed.

interesting, to say the least :)
did you ever take a look at the file c:\program files\vcds 11.11.x\autoscan.txt ??
near the end you'll see some interesting cars :)

#23 ·
I used to use the files of VCDS quite a lot as it was useful to be able to pen the .txt or indeed use Long Coding Helper without being connected to the car however due to piracy issues they've had to change.

Also, the guy who's selling just the cable - do you need to spend cash on other bits to get it up and running?

#27 ·
And this cable fits all the types of car, older versions etc?

#29 ·
Yep did see that, was just wondering why such a price difference between the lot of them. Thanks for your help!
