I've recently changed from a White TTS to my Black S5 Cab.
I used to get the odd remark (all positive) but I'm getting more attention in this beast which surprises me. It is a stunning looker (not bias at all :) ) and the 20inch wheels help but I am still surprised.
Yesterday (which is what prompted to write this) a couple of young guys pulled up behind me as I was leaving a fuel station and knocked on my window to compliment the car and ask about it. They were knowledgeable as they knew the V6T didn't stand for Turbo and talked about the Super-charged 3.0 engine.
The day before a guy in a black S4 stopped me to again show his appreciation and ask about fuel consumption as he was thinking about an S5.
Just interested to hear your experiences.

It indeed gives positive reactions most of the time. It is not "in your face" stunning or aggressive in anyway, but it seems people appreciate the combination of beauty, cabrio and power in one car.

I get used to it, but when I see another one driving, I am positively surprised myself too :)

Same here, i get compliments everyday from the entire range of demographics. "Nice Car man" My red top really does it but top down gets just as many comments. Definitely not flying under the radar in this car. My RS6 yes.

Ive noticed a strange phenomenon that I've never experienced in other cars , one of drivers in front pulling over to let me through.I'm not an aggressive driver at all and I never tailgate...it seems they see those LEDs coming and get outta the way.

On the whole the comments I get are positive .

I get this as well, never tailgating, in fact not even that fussed about passing and yet everything (with the very odd exception who do the exact opposite) seems to get out of the way. Also any comments have always been in the positive

No question the car gets tons of comments and that get out of the way presence on the road. Funniest was the other day though: guy in a jeep pulls up next to me and looks over and says "my god the pussy I'd get in that car!". Too funny. Best car I've ever had.

looks over and says "my god the pussy I'd get in that car!".
That's hard to believe but hilarious nonetheless.

It's mainly the looks it gets for me. It turns heads everywhere.
x2

I did get this one guy come up to me outside my girlfriend's house and ask me if it was for sale :D

Funniest (to me) was a guy trying to get beside me to give a thumbs up in his stock A5 on the QEW Niagara in stop & go traffic not realizing his lane was at a stop, mine wasn't, he had to lock em up, must have just missed hitting the car in front of him by a few microns :) Felt bad for him but we cruised together for a bit once it cleared up, mostly people compliment the wheels & colour as a regular compliment.

I came out of Home Depot the other day and an elderly couple was taking pictures of my car! They chatted with me for a few moments before leaving. Never had that happen before!

Like others on this thread I too get compliments fairly often from passers by - "nice car," "love that car," etc. But I particularly enjoyed the attention the car got at a recent track weekend which was hosted by our local BMW car Club of America chapter. It was really gratifying having so many M3 owners come by to see the car and ask questions about it. The styling, amenities, beautiful interior, etc really stood out. One guy who currently has an E90 M3 took copious notes- said he was going to sell his M3 and get an S5!

Every single valet who parks my cars comments, "nice car Boss..."

Another time I was filling my tank in an urban section of Baltimore and a guy comes up and says, "that car is beautiful... you must have spent a lotta money on that ride... can you help me out and spare an extra buck or two?"

Guy with decked out Mitsubishi Eclipse pulls up to me: "Dude, holy $#@$ your car is one mean mother@#$@#$. It's the 130k one, right?? (presumably he's referring to the R8)"

Me: "Haha, thanks man. Naw, this thing costs about 80k"

Guy: /gives me wtf look and pulls away, leaving me in a cloud of his exhaust gas which likely had no catalytic converters (I also had both windows open and couldn't close them in time :()

Yeah I've also had the standard head turns and glances. My two "comments" in the month since I got it:

1. Was at a gas station filling up when two guys came over from their van to check out the car and ask me questions about it. Their first reaction was "nice car man!" and then they wanted to know how much it cost, what year, whether it was good to drive, etc., as one of them was considering an S5.

2. Was stopped at a traffic light with the top down when I see a guy on the passenger side to my left stick his head out to check out the car. He nods and goes "Nice car!" before adding "I still like my S4 though" with kind of a smirk on his face (it was totally good-natured).

The best is showing it to friends though. You don't generally get the fake "nice car" comments, but rather the first word is always "wow".

Comments

As posted above people seem to respect you in an S5 rather than dis-respect you as I have experienced in other cars. My last was a 645CI and other people seemed to judge you straight away i.e big BMW= Ars***le!!
I also get kids asking me to floor it at lights so they can see how fast it is and hear the noise!
I don't really like the attention but I do like the difference attitude towards me and the car!

I went to a high end restaurant a week or so ago and valeted my car... when I walked out it was still in the same spot I got out of it at... I asked if there was a problem and the valet simply replied "No sir not at all, I just wanted to look at is as long as I could!" Ha, needless to say he got a big tip from me!

But yeah, I get compliments all the time... sometimes I notice cars behind me weaving through traffic just to pull up next to me and give me a thumbs up! Ha, I LOVE my S5!

It is amazing the comments, looks and interest the car gets but my best moment came a couple of weeks ago, I was following a couple in a F430, it was in the left lane I was in the right and they slowed to stare at my car and both gave thumbs up. AWESOME..

When I first got it back early in 2008, there weren't a lot of A5 models let alone S5's so I was pretty much the guy driving the batmobile. A lot of good and excellent comments but I will never forget these two hot chicks that literally stood in the middle of the road just for me to stop and take their number.

I'm actually really surprised at all the attention I get from driving my 2011 Audi S5 (black with titanium package). All of the comments I have gotten so far have been positive. People have come up to me at times in parking lots, gas stations and even at a traffic light to comment or ask questions about the car. Most of the questions have centered around the Titanium Package, which has the Blacked out front grille, window surrounds, and 19" RS5 wheels. I also get questions on acceleration, mileage and cost.

I guess where I live up in New England, there aren't many of them around, so people are curious about the car. I'm still surprised though how much more attention I get in this than the 2009 M3 that I was driving.

I'm amazed at how much attention it gets, even though it's not unique in SoCal. Thumbs up, rubber necking, people coming up to me after I park. I think a lot of it is the AWE exhaust.

I have a 2011 S5 Ice Silver Metallic, and the funny thing is that I "notice" people noticing my car when I am driving, but rarely do I get a comment or smile, I just get a quick turn of the head like there not looking.

In stark contrast, on the few occasions my Wife has taken it to the store to run a quick errand, she comes back and tells me how many compliments she has gotten, how several people in one place will come up to her and comment on the car.

I laugh thinking, well, I guess it's not as common for a Man to tell another Man how nice a car is out of fear or jealousy, but they don't have the same problem expressing to a woman how they feel about the car.

Without a doubt this is one of the best cabs out there, I constantly have people asking about the car from petrol heads to the people on the street. I must admit of all the diverse cars I have owned this is the most attention grabbing beast I have had the pleasure to drive. BUT I DO WANT A RS5
