Hi all,
Please excuse my ignorance here but am I correct in thinking that the A5 has a centre Torsen diff, whilst the A3 has a Haldex centre diff?

Cheers

Marty

Not sure about the A3, but the A5 has a Torsen diff.

Not sure whether the later ones have a crown gear diff, but pretty sure it's not Haldex. Someone who's more of an expert may chime in to confirm or refute.

all quattro Audi's with a transversal engine, like A3, Q3, TT, don't have a torsen diff.
they have the Haldex-clutch, located just before the rear axle.

all quattro Audi's with longitudal engines, like A4, A5, A6, etc.etc. have a central torsen differential.

Thanks for that.

Reason for asking is that today I asked my local dealer to price up a service and to include for changing the gearbox and diff fluids and they came back with a price for 'A3 Haldex oil plus filter'. Just thought I was losing the plot was all.......

This is on top of them last year telling me that I needed a cam belt change - on a 3.0TDi, which is driven by chains......

Thanks for the replies chaps.

It concerns me that my car is being routed through some service 'advisor' or 'daft bint' to put it bluntly, who doesn't know what they are talking about, but yet they are quite willing to relieve me of hundreds of pounds of my hard-earned.

After this latest experience I am seriously considering binning the Audi dealership for servicing and using a recommended Indie instead.

the pré-FL have a torsen-diff type "C".
the FL do indeed have a "crown gear" differential, which also works on the difference in torque and/or difference in speed between the front and rear outgoing axle.
