I can give you the answer:

I have an A5 2.0T with Quattro
I have a TT 2.0T without Quattro

How annoyed am I that the TT hasn't got Quattro? The amount of front wheelspin I get when it is greasy is annoying. They say once you have quattro, you never got back. They are right in my view. The A5 just flies with AWD - it is a lot more sure footed. But I do worry about my tyre bill eventually so I don't go mad all the time.

If you have the cash to burn, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Agree with you Spencer. We briefly had a new 2.0T FWD TT in 2008 with 19in RS4 style alloys, nice car in many ways but handling was crap. Seems you can still only get the 2.0T TT Quattro with DSG/STronic. or the superb Diesel with M6.

Agree on the TT comparisons for grip but not for handling. My FWD TT (2nd gen) was miles better going round corners than the A5 is. Much sharper with less understeer.

Trying to boot it off the line was a different story however and that's where quattro wins.

My mate has recently gone from a Honda Accord (I know!) to a 1.8 A5 and has been complaining about wheelspin an awful lot...

We found the TT handling awful with the 19in wheels,maybe smaller wheels were better, slightest pothole and it lost the plot. seemed to be forever hanging on to the steering wheel.

A 1.8 A5, does that have enough power to generate wheelspin?? ;-0

Mine had 18s. Scirocco I had after that had 19s and it did feel a bit more skittish in comparison (and its a very similar car to the TT). As for the 1.8, believe it or not it's actually got more oomph than one might think. I was pretty impressed and surprised.

Hi RGB - Did you have the MMI 3rd Gen and this a firmware update? If so what does it do. I am going in on Thursday to apparently upgrade my MMI. Dont know if the dealer is confused or if there is an actual firmware update.

@Sameila - great choice. Good engine - has some know issues which you wil find out by going through the threads.
The point and press of the quattro is thrilling indeed. And on a car with 500nm that grin will etched in for quite a while. Enjoy

Front wheel drive sucks, period. If the non-quattro cars were rear wheel drive, I'd be okay with that. But since they are front wheel drive, it makes the quattro an absolute neccessity.

I didn't read all of the posts in this thread....instead, I just posted my opinion on FWD cars. No offense to anyone who may have one, but I'll never own one again. RWD or AWD for me from now on...I learned my lesson with the crappy dynamics of a FWD car. Not to mention the horrid torque steer!:thumbsup:
