What exactly do you experience?

Does this knocking only occur when the wheel has been turned completely right/left?

I think I may have the same issue. Mine noise is heard when I'm reversing slowly at a parking lot or slowly entering a parking lot when turning the steering wheel either way. The noise is like a clicking/clunking sound but it's not consistent. Sometimes I will hear it, sometimes I won't. It's more predominate when the car is warm than cold.

I did take it into the Dealer, but surprise surprise, they didn’t find anything wrong.

I have this click too. Only at low speed and full lock. Very minor issue in my mind. Audi replaced a front half-shaft and CV joints, but it still clicks.

I hardly notice it now, but it's still there. No noticable effect on performance or handling.

Fortunately, the S5 is still huge fun to drive!

OP, are you lowered?

I have the same "issue".. posted it over on AZ..
it happens when I reverse into my parking spot with full wheel lock.. sounds like a plastic popping sound from the suspension.

one said its a worn out lower control arm, which I doubt since I only have 15k miles on it and just had the control arm TSB done.

another said, its natural for the quattro to do this..

either way, as long as it doesnt break anything i dont really care, its just very annoying and seems like something is wrong/about to break.

Don`t have an S5 but a 2011 A5 black edtion 2ltr tdi and i noticed a clunk/knock reversing in my works car park the other day, i tried to get it to do it again but could`nt, a few days later i reversed again, and heard it again.

Anyone shed any light on this issue, i would say when i was reversing i was putting it to full lock while moving slowly.

Low speed steering noise

Hi everyone

I have a rubbing noise when turning the steering full left or right, vibration coming through the steering wheel :-( only when taking off, nothing can be felt at speed, for example when reversing the car and turning the steering wheel you can actually hear the noise as well as feel it! any ideas?

Yup same observation here. First observed it when I let it stand for 10 days in my garage in Dec when I was out vacationing.
Came back, got into car, reversed out of the parking spot and clunk! Full turn left/right, slow speeds.
I could replicate this driving around in circles forwards and backwards in an open area.
Another observation, steering wheel shudders slightly at center, when turning from full left to full right and vice versa.

It was warmer when I went to the dealer's, and of course no sound at all.
But I've had them note it in case it comes to bite me after warranty expires in years.
I've had them look at the:
1) power steering fluid and hose (there's a TSB for older models '08-'10 i think)
2) CV boot
3) suspension strut mounts up front

and according to them everything was fine.

Please update this thread as you get more info...
Thanks!

Looking in ELSA TSBs it would appear there were a small batch of earlier A5s where some had deformed top mounts, but this issue seems wider and not just related to quattro. Mines not repeatable but I'm expecting a little wear on mine because of the age. Will get this examined when it's due in for service - I'm not too concerned as I've heard this on other cars I've had (and on an A3). Keep shedding light on this though, just in case it could lead to more serious issues.

It's back. Now it's not just while reversing, I get short loud creak when low speed turning (usually when braking or pulling away in first) It only happens very quickly. My suspicions are a dry or worn bush, but sounds closer to the passenger strut top mount as it sounds like it is just under the dashboard. Any tips for jacking up a quattro to check?

isn't it funny ... I got the same thing @ the dealer that a few of you brought up here ... "couldn't replicate it" ...

It literally happens to me every time I'm pulling in/out of a parking spot. I said I would come back at some point when the techs are available and show them personally. If I actually go back and do that any time soon ... a different story.

Ive got a very similar problem!

Whenever I turn the car at full speed and the steering is almost at full lock, I feel an intermittent jolt in the steering wheel, it happens more so if turning on a slope, but its definitely there and easy to recreate. As for a noise, I can definitely hear something but the jolt from the steering wheel is what is more concerning. I called the local stealer and the suspension dude says this is normal, but I am still concerned as it feels like the CV joint is about to pop.

Another factor - I have 15ml HR Spacers on with 20" rims (ET29). Could the spacers be a reason for this to put more strain on the CV Joint? (I have no idea just throwing it out there).

Who else with this problem is using spacers??

NEED INPUT!!!!!!
