Sportback Subwoofer Upgrade

Hi guys, sorry to revive this thread but its a really excellent write up. I am looking into a sub upgrade after i upgraded my door speakers and tweeters + added soundproofing to doors, and now the stock sub is not keeping up.

I am considering 3 things: doing exactly this stock sub replacement with the kicker sub, installing an active sub eg. JBL Stage 800BA, or going full out and getting a sub with a separate amp with an enclosure dedicated for the A5 sportback like below.

Each option has its pros and cons, costs, performance, space taken up, ease of install.

I am really tempted with the kicker, i would really appreciate if those of you that installed it in your cars gave me a more detailed description of bass improvements to help me make a decision?

I think the person you are trying to describe is what we call over there a "boy-racer", and all the young lads go through their boy-racer phase :D

So i know exactly what you mean, and I think I am years past that stage.
I am not looking for any "street cred" or trying to look cool when I pull up in front of a gathering.

I just want to enjoy a bit of quality music, as I spend a lot of time on the road. I am looking for some stronger bass so that I can feel the music instead of just hearing it
I mainly listen to dance, house or electro music.

You say it will surprise me and you upgraded from a B&O sub, I only have the standard Audi system so I guess it would be an bigger upgrade in my case.
(not that the B&O sub was great to begin with, but I guess its better than standard)

I really like this solution as its not taking up any extra space and the price is reasonable, but could you describe the difference the kicker made for you?
Could you feel the bass more? Was it noticeably more powerful? Was it like a "wow" difference when you first heard it?

thanks!

i think you have me convinced!

I never even sat in a car with a proper 10" or 12" sub so i have nothing to compare against, but i know that i am after quality sound and not how loud it is. I think it should make me happy.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if the kicker was connected in parallel? technically 2ohms instead of 4ohms means 2x current draw so twice as much power output?

You make it sound better and better.

The only thing that worries me now is that I might not get the same result because you had B&O to begin with, and I only have the 10 speaker Audi Audio system. I assume the stock amps are different?

I also changed my radio coding to "dynaudio profile" in byte 4, as I heard that it's the coding for B&O and it did massively increase the sound quality. However I also heard that in some cases with mmi 3g+ it disables the subwoofer adjustment through mmi or even sometimes disables the sub all together. I better check that first.

Do you happen to know anything about that by any chance?
