Is it just me - i ordered my new car at the beginning of January (10th) and was originally told to expect delivery in March. In Feb i was told by my dealership that it had been put back to April and have just received confirmation that the car is due to be built week 20 (week starting May 17th) with an expected delivery of mid June.

I don't think i've ordered anything particularly out of the ordinary so was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

Also, i tried to order a sunroof but was told that they were not available on he SB but on a recent visit to Cape Town i popped into a dealership and found a sportback with one fitted - is this a different spec for South Africa?

2.0 TFSI (211) Quattro
S Line
Phantom Black
Heated / Electric front seats
Parking System plus
Tech Pack - high
Phone Prep - high
Folding Mirrors
Deletion of engine capacity / model
7 arm alloys (been so long i can't remember the exact type!)

Anyone else had similar?

Hey, welcome to the forum!

When I ordered my Cab in December and was told May for my car (it is going to be here in early May), I was told the waiting list for the Sportback was longer, like June-July. Sounds to me like your dealer hoped to pinch an earlier build slot but failed to get one.

In the A5 Sportback brochure here:

http://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/PriceAndSpecGuides/A5Sportback.pdf

... there is no mention of a sunroof anywhere although it can be seen in the 2nd picture on page 48.

I think that means it's not a UK market option sadly, but of course exists elsewhere as you have seen - probably in sunnier countries!

Gibborocks - with luck like that you should definately get yourself a lottery ticket!

re the sunroof - it wasn't in the brochure but showed up on the configurator on the web site - kind of strange. Too late to change anything now as the build date has been confirmed.

Unfortunately as many would tell you, one cannot trust the configurator for anything - it's absolutely useless and has as many errors as things that are right.

I do wonder why they don't put in the effort to sort it out though.

I ordered Jan 29th - build week is next week and I should get it in 4-5 weeks - i.e. late may.

Looks like your dealer didnt place the order when they say they did - or you've been really unlucky over the spec somehow.

Agreed, my order for a Sportback went in on February 7th and it's been built this week. So either there was a delay due to your specification choice or the dealer was slow getting your order in.

Welcome to the club and good luck with the wait.

I was looking for topics similar to this and can feel your pain.

I have ordered an A5 Cab. I ordered it in March

I was told by the dealer to place order then so that I get a June delivery, so I did. Unbelievably, he rang me yesterday to confirm the spec. He said we are looking at build week 27 etc.

I went furious. I said basically you forgot to put in the order. He said it is because they changed the all leather option to alcantara, which pushed it back. I said I specified alcantara and leather all along, who the hell put all leather. He still wouldn't admit fault. Nothing I can do but wait.

So pissed off cos what is the point, especially if dates get pushed back, no point having the car if it doesn't come in Summer.

ETA: He also said it is due to model changes at the factory on all cars

We do enter the 2011 model year in about week 25 or so, so that has some involvement and it may be beneficial to get a 2011, although that doesn't ever excuse them not placing the order.

Are you sure it wasn't just standard confirmation? You get a build slot long before you confirm the specification, normally order can be up to 4-5 months before delivery, but confirmation will be about 2 months before delivery, or 1 month before production week.

Hi Shmee

I hope that there would be some 2011 upgrades if that is the case, although the dealer said yesterday he doubts there will be any change on the A5 Cab, its mostly other cars.

As for everything else, I'm not entirely sure. spec was given, contract signed, June date agreed, then got his call yesterday for the date push back

I agree unlikely they would change anything this early in the model life cycle.

I ordered mine in December because I wanted it for summer; hopefully it will be here in May, but I knew it was 4 months or so back then which is why I placed the order so early. Week 27 puts you on for late July or very early August; that is quite a long time, but if you ordered around 20th March that would put you in line with how long mine is taking.

the problem is that they will have said June because of the Open Season deal I imagine, but they have failed to meet it - is that the case?

Read the small print... with most orders if the dealer doesn't deliver within 3 months of the agreed delivery date (I hope you have one on your invoice), you can walk away.

#18 ·
Understood... I feel guilty, like I've jumped the queue ahead of you ;)

#20 ·
haha, would be great to see pics of yours once it arrives
Will do!

I ordered my A5 at the end of March and my build date is Week 28, I have never waited for anything as long, it is like waiting for Leeds Utd to go back up in the Premier league.

So should I expect a delivery mid July then?
Build + 3-4 weeks seems to be the norm.

Lead times have gone up since I ordered back in early Feb, unfortunate for the new guys :(

Week 28 is July 12th, I would expect delivery in the first week of August.

March and April are peak car buying months, hence the waiting list grows.

It's not as bad as the Q5 though, prospective Q5 owners have to wait 8-9 months for their cars.

When I got mine back in October 2009 (not long after launch in the UK) I was being told March 2010 for delivery.

I don't have that much patience and went for the in stock one and haven't regretted it one bit. Of course the downside is you can't spec which extras it gets although IMHO I suspect dealers will spec what the know will sell and therefore matters come resale time.

I meant Wk 25, my chunky fingers!

I am told Build Wk 25 dealer stock date 28.05.10, does this mean I will get it then, why tell me dealer stock date if not?

At least Leeds have gone up!
Week 25 is 21st June, I don't know where the date in May comes from. This would put you on for delivery in mid-July.

Best of luck to Leeds next season, I look forward to them being back in the Premiership one day!

Week 18 build, hopefully.

Ordered my Sportback on the 21st of February (supposed to pick up on the 1st of March, after my original order of the Sportback on the release date 17th October was cancelled, will tell all after my delivery!) being built last week (week 18) dealership phoning me tomorrow with further details, really can't wait now especially after the original order/dealer cock up. This is my first Audi, we fell in love with the A5 coupe at the showroom but the kids wouldn't fit in the back, ready to place my order for the A4 Avant but the Sportback is the perfect compromise, we love it. I was a bit miffed with the comments from "true" coupe officianadoes when I first joined the club with regards to the Sportback not being a coupe, but more and more threads are being opened by new A5/S5 Sportback owners which proves the desireability of the new shape, don't be upset by my "true" owners comments, as I have already mentioned I love the A5 coupe!
I've ordered an S-line, 2.0Tfsi (180), Phantom Black, 19inch PQ6 alloys, folding door mirrors, heated seats, interior light pack, storage pack.

Got the email i'd been giving up on - car is built and the dealer advised i should have it within 3 weeks - won't be able to sleep now!

#32 ·
Me too!
Already been waiting a week so sleep will come soon. Hopefully not at the wheel.
Congrats and enjoy.

Picking car up on Saturday 29th of May (a week today) at 10am, sorting out paperwork on Tuesday evening, can't wait !!
Congrats on the news. Hope it all works out well and you get to enjoy the new wheels on schedule!
