Plug and play. The screen surround is just clipped in, four bolts holding the screen in place. Just be sure to get the correct part (check the back of yours for its part number first if not certain).

Is the screen scratched or the coating? quite common for the coating to get scratched if not using the correct products methods. Others on here have removed the coating using a plastic polish such as Meguiars Plasti RX, then applied another matte non refelective screen protector.

imagine its like an iphone that's scratched if its scratched the screen is scratched theres no coating?

 

Try nail polish remover... works a treat then if you really feel like it apply a screen protector but you could easily do without...

It'll work a treat if you're out to destroy the screen...won't be much left to attach the screen protector to when you're done

 

There's a coating on the screen its supposed to make the screen anti glare and non reflective so you can view the screen on a bright sunny day. The coating is what gets scratched easily, a bit more info here http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-general-q/107458-scratches-mmi-screen.html

 

LCD panels are made from glass, not plastic?

If the OP is happy to replace it anyway, it could be worth trying to remove the anti-glare layer and then use an anti-glare screen protector on the glossy screen you'd be left with. No extra loss if it goes wrong.

 

Audi screens have a plastic polarizer layer on top of the LCD glass layer. I don't know whether it is a plastic that can resist acetone. Also, I doubt there would be any second hand screens without some scratches as the anti glare coating is really soft.

I used some Displex (eBay) to remove the scratched anti-glare coating and then bought an anti-glare screen protector from Lexerd (Amazon USA) who make them for the specific Audi A5 (standard MMI screen size), however if you have the 7" wide screen MMI, then you can get this on eBay for under a fiver here:

i used autoglym super resin polish,worked a treat!
perfect finish,look like a new screen,and its great in the sun ,no glare or anything.

 

I used an alcohol eyeglass cleaner/wipe and it removes the coating without damage.
