Hi,

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same...? I recently bought a new A5 Sportback 3.0 tdi Quattro, S' line.

When the car is idling and stationary it is ticks over at around 500-600 revs not at the 1000 rev mark as in my previous Audis.

I have the auto/tiptronic 7 speed gearbox and in Auto mode especially at low speeds the gear changes are very noticeable even a bit sluggish moving between the gear selection.

Can anyone shed any light on this or make any suggestions as to the cause of the problem ?

Hi...

If you live in the UK then I think I am right in saying that your gearbox is a 7 speed S Tronic gear box and not the old Trip Tronic version.

This was the main fault with my A4 2.0T S Tronic and that's why it went back.
The gear changes just didn't seem to be sharp enough.
Does it improve if you give it more on the GO pedal making the gear changes further up the rev range.

As for the revs, it's seems a bit low. Check that you've counted the rev counter marks correctly as each one mark is 200RPM

Hi Martin,

Yep i'm UK based.

Many thanks for the info. Yes it is the S-tronic gearbox and not the Tiptronic. Yes, if I'm heavier with the pedal, it is a bit smoother, but at the end of the day why should I have to do that and waste more fuel? (I expect you thought the same). You mentioned that your car "went back", was that permanently or was it to rectify the fault (if it was to rectify, what did they do)?. With regard to the rev count the needle is more or less half way between 0 and 1. 1 being 1,000 revs. It idles between 500 and 600 rpm

Many thanks for your help.

Simon.

before buying my A5 SB, I tested a 3.2 FSI with drive- and a 2.0 TFSI, without drive-select.
in order to have the possibility to adapt the gear-change, I ordered my car with drive-select.
in "auto"-position, the gear changes are fine.

I got my A5 2.0TFSI (211) Stronic Quatrro Sline Special Edition in December 2009 and it has been back to the dealer 4 times since to fix the 3 second delay when pulling off from a junction (when the engine is cold). The delay reduces as the car warms but is still noticeable. I have also asked them to repair the fault with the fuel economy as I can not accept an average 18.75mpg (DIS 20.9) when driven carefully ~ I dread to think what it will be like when I want to have some fun! I know it will never reach the quoted 38.7 combined quoted figure but it’s not even close to the urban at 29.1mpg

Other faults include a vibrating rear parcel shelf (3 attempts to fix but still vibrates), door panel vibrating, door handle failed (wouldn’t unlatch the door ~ had to open window and use the internal handle), door latch would not work in the cold weather (once open it would not close properly), boot floor lifting handle broken on delivery.

I am currently exploring my rights to reject this vehicle under the Sale of Goods Act as it is both not as described and not fit for purpose.

Can anyone offer any advice?
