I used a 64gb card for the maps, formatted in fat32, in another format like exFat, it gave me problems.
the SD-card should not be formatted in exFat, but FAT32 instead.

Cheers :wink2:

In order new 2021 map to fit in 32GB SD do not copy the following folders
pkgdb/LIT
pkgdb/LIT2
pkgdb/LIT3

You might need GEM (Green engineering menu) activated and use User Defined Mode and manually select all that is under AUDI_MMI3G_ECE if it's not selected.

Note: For update of 3GHigh remove the LIT3GP folders instead.

Warning - FW update K0900 is removing the "Emergency Update" option from the "Green Menu". There is a way that this can be fixed.

• Emergency menu activation on K0900 firmware. [ Only for A5OC ]
• To enable the Green Menu you could use VCDS, VAS or the following script [ Green menu activation ]
• 03623 [ 03623 Remove ]
1. Unzip it on the SD card.
2. Put the sd card in the MMI.
3. When prompted press the center knob.
4. After the script is done you will see confirmation screen.
5. Remove the SD card and reboot MMI

Do not use MAC to unpack and/or copy the files to the SD card.

Q&A section
Here are some of the questions raised by the forum members about the update process that I might failed to explain in the manual.

Q. Do i need VCDS to do the update?
A. No, you need VCDS only to clear some errors after the update but the MMI will function correctly even if you don’t clear them out.

Q. I have a Bang & Olufsen sound system not a Bose. Does this also mean that i need to exclude it?
A. Yes, better not to update the DSP system.

Q. Currently no updates for North America?
A. Not for now.

Q. I have mmi 3gp , version p0XXX can i go straight to k0900?
A. Yes.

Q. Have found the activation script and it includes "2380_00040009.fsc". This should be changed according to manual Page 31 to the MAC address specifically to my MMI or should I continue to use the "2380_00040009.fsc" as stated in the manual page 18.
A. Leave the filename as it is now.

Q. The 2380_00040009.fsc file contains a VIN number. Should that be changed to my VIN number?
A. No, do not attempt the edit the fsc file.

Q. Will my VIN be visible and correct in the MMI
A. Yes.

Q. Only thing is that my Google Maps option is greyed out... any hints?
A. Reinstall the GEMMI_nav component from the K0900.

Q. 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version - How can i solve this ?
A. Restart the MMI and remove the key from ignition then put it back in. The error should change from 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version to 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management.

Q. What does the new firmware bring in terms of added functionality?
A. Not much, apart from K0770/K0767 fixing the issues with the SIM data connection and Bluetooth usage at the same time.

Q. What are 03276 and 03175, will they affect the MMI in anyway and how can they be avoided?
A. 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management will appear every time when the software is updated w/o VAS connection to the VW/Audi servers.
03175 - Invalid Data Set will appear when updating the map w/o deleting it first. Sometimes this helps to avoid that error.
They will not affect the functionality or the sound characteristics of the MMI.

Q. Is there a way to use used defined mode w/o "Green Menu"?
A. Yes. In file metainfo2.txt in the root folder if you remove the line "MetafileChecksum=XXXXXX" and add
EnableUserDefinedSWDLMode = "true"
skipMetaCRC = "true"
the you will be able to use the user mode w/o the green menu.

Warning - At no stage I take responsibility of your actions or any of my notes that may mislead you. Therefore, and like my all other documents I say “use at your own risk”.

no, you can not.
3G basic is a totally different system than 3G High or 3G+
even trying could brick your system.

Before I update the firmware in my A5 2012 with Bang & Olufsen, I just wanted to check first

Media version
HN+_EU_AU3G_P0513
Nav.database Version
8R0060884AH ECE 5.13.8

I download the stock firmware version and inside there's a folder called BO_Q7

After enableing User Defined Mode in the Green Menu

I proceed with the firmware upgrade and selected User Defined but notice that NO folder referring to BO is available to uncheck

Is it safe to continue with the upgrade?

I'd say "yes" -- we had the same situation with our NAR '14 A4q with B & O sound. I believe the BO_Q7 package is intended for the Q7 platform, specifically.

Greetings all!
First I would like to apologize if i'm not on the right forum.

I recently bought an A6(2.8 FSI) 2012 (no bose or other sophisticated sound packages).
I live in Bulgaria and it has the EU maps. To elaborate:
HN+R_EU_AU_P0518
8R0060884AH

Can somebody be so kind as to point me to the latest update of the OS(MMI) I can install as well as the latest maps that are available for that model. (and possibly where to download them).
I've read through a bunch of threads, but I always worry i'll download the wrong version and will lock/do something to my car.
As long as I find the right version, i'm confident i'll be fine with the installation, etc. I understand it's at my own risk.
Any tips/suggestions/guides are welcome and greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!

Hello, First of all thanks for this awesome post and providing all the well scripted information. I've 2012 A6 that has never been updated. Its got MMI 3G+ with Sim and Audi Connect. Can I go ahead and update to K0900 directly or I need to install another firmware? I've Bośe sound system. Thanks in advance guys!!

I have successfully updated my firmware P0814 to K0942_3, it has created the 03276 fault code but thanks to the guide here the error has dissapeared, so thank you so much!

Now I am preparing for the update of the maps. The thing is - my A4 (MMI 3G Plus) doesn't have a sim card and Audi Connect with the online traffic data, but it does have a TMCpro (and I have read in the internet it has a lifetime license) which gives me here in Germany "kind of" a traffic data, specifially on the highways which is super useful. Now my question is - does manual map update + aktivation via skript harm the TMCpro license? Or it's something independent and I can perform update without worrying about it? To be fair roads in Germany don't change so often so if the update could cause losing TMCpro data, then I would rather keep the old maps and don't update anything.

My (and others) experience with nav database updates has been that "activation" is required only when the MMI software is updated prior to the nav database update -- that is, if your MMI software is current & doesn't get updated (not likely for this generation of MMI systems), subsequent nav database updates will not require "activation".
Hi DrGer; your 'experience' regarding [no need for] Activation with no prior MMI update, is an interesting comment that I've not seen elsewhere. It's a logical explanation though as one presumes the logic is built into the MMI code rather than the map data. [If the activation 'validates' the map by updating MMI code, it's reasonable that a replacement set of raw MMI coide will 'lose' the previous validation].

I'm considering a map update on my UK A8, which had the latest [K0942] MMI code installed together with a new map update and activation, courtesy of Audi dealer when I purchased it in 2018, but the map data is obviously now out of date.

So I presume a map update to EUR 2020/2021 will mean no need to acquire and run any activation scripts?

Julian

BTW; I read your extensive document on updating your NAR system. The most professional document I've seen in a long time ...

Your presumption should be correct: if both MMI software & navigation data were updated from the original production versions, we assume "activation" to the current nav data was performed already, and further navigation data updates will not require "(re)activation". Inspection of the "activation pack" SD card shows that it includes only the encrypted shell script, which is reproduced, decrypted, in my update document. You'll note that the script is generic & makes no specific reference to the VIN of the car being "activated". I haven't yet determined exactly which QNX process "blocks" access to the updated nav data (after the MMI software is updated) & why; if someone here can offer an insight to this, I'd be interested in knowing what "blocks" nav data access & how the script changes fix (i.e., unblock) this access. --g

Hello,

What steps do I have to follow to update my maps?
Thank you :)
This thread is for MMI 3GP/3G+ EU systems (i.e., HN+R_EU_AU_Pxxxx); see the first message of the thread. The MMI hardware in your A6 uses different software/nav data. Look for the software update HERE. Sorry, can't offer any pointers to new navigation/map data for your platform. --g
