Keyless entry

I've got a 2007 A5 with keyless entry specced on the options list. It's got a start/stop button and I don't need to put the key in the dash to start the car.

Is this the same as advanced key (i.e. I should be able to open the car without needing to use the remote)? I've seen some forum posts which say there would be an additional PR code in the book for advanced key, but others say if you've got the start /stop button that indicates advanced key. If it's specced but not working then I'd like to get replacement sensors and sort it.

When my car was serviced recently we got the attached codes, but the tech cleared them and said none reappeared.

Thanks!

As far as I know, B8 models only got the START/STOP button if they had Advanced Key. There was no other option to get keyless start (unlike on the B9, where keyless start is standard, but Advanced Key is still optional).

In the photo, it's only showing the list of modules and which ones have faults. You can double click them to open up and see the actual list of faults each module has.

If you don't have to put the key in, then you must have advanced key / keyless entry / kessy.

If one of the door sensors is faulty (one of the more common issues) then it may not let you lock / unlock using it because it needs all the antennas working at once to determine the physical location of the key (inside, outside, close to door etc.). There is probably a specific fault code indicating which one it is.

So you can walk up to a locked boot without the key on or near you and it doesn’t open. Repeat with the key on your person and you can open the boot?

Same doesn’t work on the doors?

If so, yes it’s the door sensors but usually if they go, the entire advanced key system stops working.

Yep that's right. Read a couple of posts which said if one of the door handle goes they both go, but the boot might still work but without a scan we're guessing really. Santa is bringing me OBDeleven so future fixes will hopefully be a bit more targeted.

The boot still works when the door sensors are bust. But one door sensor broken stops both doors working. Worth ordering two sensors as they are cheap and even if one is still working the odds are it will go after a while. Relatively easy to change the sensor - there is a guide on here somewhere.

My sensors should be there tomorrow, got a pair. The passenger door looks easy enough, that's what the guides on here cover, but the drivers door with the lock looks a bit more of a faff.

I had my door card off to fix the exterior handle not working, and it was pretty damp inside the door skin - lots of condensation. Not surprised they break, if the design was poor.

Yeah. the drivers side is a bit more fiddly with the big chunky lock piece, but it just slides out and in if the handle bit is in place. I did my drivers side first and it took me ~40 mins as I didn't get which way to pull the lever to get everything to slide back in, when I came to do the passenger side a couple of months later it was much easier just from having done it, so if you start with passenger side you should be fine.

Swapping the sensors didn't fix it so I need to get a scan done, but the actual swap was really easy after reading a couple of threads and watching a couple of videos on YouTube. Did both sides in under 40 mins.
