Hello,

I want to give a try to one of fuel injectors cleaners like Liqui Moly, Tech 2000 or Protec.

I do not want to add it to the fuel tank but directly to the fuel line with closed circulation (the most effective way).

It is quite easy when we have a fuel filter and visible all fuel connections (supply, return) but S5 V8 4.2l FSI does not have the fuel filter (?!?!?)

Any idea how to plug everything to clean it up as it should be?
Where are all the connections? How to handle/neutralize the fuel pump in the tank?

Example of the best connection:

carbon buildup clean

Hi,
I live in Burnaby BC Canada

Recently i brought my car to Richmond Audi because of misfire, engine light on. (I have 3rd party warranty)
My car is 2010 Audi S5 coupe. 120000km mileage.

So they replaced 5 coils out of 8 coils. They said no more misfire and no engine light on. Suggested me to clean up carbon buildup. It costs almost $1800 which
is super expensive. Also its hard to trust a dealer. (from my past experiences) Driving is great. but i can see white emission is coming out of my muffler. Also im not sure its relative but when i turn on the car its not clearly starting.

I have researched Youtube and google. Many people suggest to try CRC intake cleaner. The easiest way is spray CRC into the air intake. i tried to do it today but it failed. Also i asked a couple of private mechanics that one is offered $1340 +tax and the other one offered $770+tax. Its still cost for me.

I really like my car but its an old car. I do care of my car. Im not trying to make my car super clean or a brand new car. I just want to some clean up the carbon.
Is anyone help me out whats the best solution without too much cost?

Also please advice me how to spray CRC intake cleaner. (im not a mechanic so please explain me simple and easy way)

Need help.
Thanks

I've never seen anyone using the cleaner straight with a gasoline engine car, and there's probably a ratio of cleaner/gasoline that works best. It's the same principle as buying concentrated dish soap and just using that to wash the dishes. It would be too thick and harder to clean the dishes. You need the soap to dissolve/bind with the gunk and water to carry away the upper layer of gunk before the soap can dissolve/bind with the next layer of gunk underneath.

From what I have gathered, most cleaners use the same chemical as Chervron's Techron with various degrees of concentration. Techron is cheap at Walmart, so why not just buy a bunch when it's on sale and dump it into the tank? I just buy them when the local auto parts store have 2-for-1 sales and use 1 bottle per fill up, 2 fill ups in a row.

With too much cleaner you will have less effectiveness so you're basically just wasting money in my opinion. If there is evidence to the contrary, I would love to see it.

Audi recommends adding this to a full tank of gas (two tank fulls) for injector cleaner:

amazon.com Volkswagen-Fuel-Additive dp B00PV72MQ2 (you have to reassemble the link by adding the / back in for each space)

I have used it effectively to remove carbon from the injectors that were causing cold start misfires. (There is an Audi TSB for this treatment.) According to my local independent Audi repair shop, this is different that the typical Techron type cleaner. He says it outperforms anything else he has tried.

BTW, the retail price is $19 US not $29 that Amazon is selling it for.

BG 44K also has good reviews. I used it once on my A5 2.0 TFSI and A3 2.0 TSI and had good results.

However, it's much more expensive than techron so I switched over to techron recently.

BG 44K is $23 for 20 gallon treatment = $1.15 /gal
Techron with Autozone BOGO is $9 for 24 gal treatment = $0.38 / gal

I've just finished running through 2 bottles ($9) worth of techron and the car's slight shaking while cold idling has disappeared just like when I used BG 44K.

Thanks for the information.
I am struggling with misfire on one cylinder over 6k RPM only and I want to use Pro Tec Fuel Line Cleaner (375ml is enough for 80l and I want to use it for 30l max - better effect).

The best would be to apply it straight to the injectors...

I have the misfire above 6k only...
One cylinder all the time (#7).

I put the additive to ~25l of fuel and will see the results soon (I hope positive).

The best way would be to apply it directly to the HPFP but I am not sure if the HPFP will suck the fuel from the can (as there will be no pressure).

Did you follow the manufacturer's concentration?

Assuming you're using the Pro-Tec Fuel Line Cleaner, the mixing ratio is 1:200. So 25 liters of fuel only requires 125 mL of cleaner. If you put too much, then you won't get the optimal cleaning result.

More is not always better. If it is, the manufacturer will make much more money if they just tell you to use the mixture at 100% cleaner / 0% gasoline.

The manufacturer recommends to use it directly to the engine (100% concentration) but as I am still not sure if the high pressure pumps (there are two which pump the fuel to the fuel rail) will suck/pump the cleaner when applied without pressure (straight from the can).

I wish to try it but do not want to damage the engine... Tried to find it out but still no info
