Fuel cap cover stuck!!

Hi guys,

I've only had my 08 3.0tdi q a few weeks, and come across a really annoying problem!

I can't get the fuel cap cover open, I'm doing all the right things ie car unlocked, key out etc, but it seems I may have a sticking lock mechanism.

I manage to get it open only by physically sliding the painted cover off revealing the cover door and pressing the lock mechanism VERY hard then it opens. I've tried WD40 which worked for about an hour, but after I replace the cover it won't work again!!!!

Really annoying as I have to remover my painted fuel cover every time I refuel - anyone else had this problem, if so is there an easy fix or is it off to the dealers for sone wallet relief???

Cheers

Jim

Jimbo - this is a common problem with the A5 - had it on mine. Had the filler flap actuator and central lock motor replaced under warranty.

Until you have addressed the repair, you can open the flap manually by using the emergency pull cord inside the boot (trunk) trim compartment on the same side of the car.

Yep, there is a red plastic 'rip cord' in the boot if you remove side cover as danj says. Happened to me once and of course boot was full of luggage!
