Door handle swap and sensor removal

I cant seem to get out the plastic pin from the passenger side door, its no locking barrel there just this plastic cup/insert. The screw on the side of the door does nothing, its loose and i cant remove it and it seems like its jamming the insert in a way anyway - and i cant get this thing out.. I need to replace the keyless entry sensor in the handle:( Any tips?
See post #130 and contact member Tipiiri and ask him how he resolved this as he had the exact same issue.

I got replacement A sensors through, fitted them earlier and everything seems to work as expected now - have been in and out the car a few times, no faults showing, car locks and unlocks as it should.

The first pair of sensors I got were just 4G8 927 753 (no A printed on them) and didn't work properly - the lock function didn't always work, and after one or two locking/unlocking cycles they would throw a 'open circuit/short circuit to B+' error.

Don't know if it's only earlier A5s that need the A sensors, but if you get replacements and they don't work, it might be worth bearing in mind.

There's a couple of differences in the parts - pics attached.
Perhaps you could (edit) label or identify which is which in the pics so that others can visually see the difference and correlate the part numbers with the differences?

Dunno it if applies to the handle sensors but I read for some other faults, for protection the system will stop power going to those parts once it detects a fault. Might be that whatever particular fault the car detected, the handles won't have power until the codes are cleared (clutching at straws here).
I believe you may be referring to a low battery condition where it starts shutting down less vital systems to conserve power.

Go through a few off and on cycles, I had the same issue and then it started working flawlessly. Mind you I cleared the error with OBDEleven as well.
Same here. No specific VCDS coding required. Just cleared the fault codes and was good to go for both remote key fobs.

Replaced my handle sensors today and all is working good. Had a little trouble with getting the handle back around the latch. First one I used some wire to hold the latch and clip the handle back on. Second one I figured out that you can retain the latch with the locking contraption inside the handle. Made a little video showing this here:

Only problem I am having is getting the barrel lock working on the drivers side. I just can’t line it up. Can anyone give me some tips? Am I missing a inspection hole or something?

Cheers.
Lining up the barrel lock as in trying to get the torx screw into it through the side of the door?

So i cleared the codes and the sensors work for a day or so then stop working keep getting Exterior door handle touch sensor open circuit short circuit to b+ static fault, both new door handles (not Audi) think ill just the key fob lol
What usually causes the oem door handle sensors to fail is water impregnation. Since you replaced those, I would also look inside your door panel for possible water impregnation further down the wiring circuit. That intermittent issue you have may be caused by corroded wires further downstream. Also check the connection/connector to the door actuator as well.

From the edge (#1) is what I did with needle nose pliers.

Pull that plastic part out where the key lock barrel sits in.
Once that is out, the handle itself can be manouvered out.
Pic 2 and 3 of Post #1 shows this quite well.

sorry replaced both sensors (not Audi parts) was working now stopped both doors, was feeling quite smug last night that id fixed it
think its cheap sensor took one out and refitted, started working think i will get Audi ones
I don't believe it's due to cheap sensors. I bought mine from Asia for dirt cheap.
I believe it may be the door lock actuator.
Did you open and read all of that Facebook A5 Owners group link?

OEM are the ones with the clear brown plastic on outer portion.
Chinese ones are all black plastic.
My Chinese ones work just great.

Replaced both of mine last night and they worked, Worked this morning also getting into car, got to work and didnt work again pain in the back side really!
Replaced both of which - door handle or door handle sensors?
If it was door handle sensors, is it with both doors or just one?
If it's just one door, then I highly suspect it could be a faulty door lock/unlock actuator. After replacing my door sensors, my driver's door would not have that normal clunk you hear as the door locks from the fob. The passenger's side worked as per spec. I later replaced the door lock actuator and all works as per spec.

My Asian door sensors are still working flawlessly. 1/8th the cost of oem.

It is crazy...
I had the error code with the driver handle only but after replacemend a new code occured but this time the passenger door... WTF?! :D
I believe I read somewhere that this is normal for this type of situation. When both sensors have failed, only the driver's side code will show. Although you have a code for the passenger's side, is it displaying the characteristics of a failed sensor? Have you cleared the code to see if it comes back?
Most people buy two new sensors anyway since they are fairly cheap from Asia.

I hope these pics help to explain what I was meaning.

When putting the sensor back in put wire in first from the end nearest where the blank part was.

Prise small screw driver where#1 is to remove the sensor it's just to release the tabs on either side of it as per pic above with the arrow.

Well I used the link for the Chinese senors - I bought 2.
I tackled the passenger's side first and after almost two hours finally figured everything out and installed the sensor.
When I removed the driver's side (LHD A5) the key lock bolt assembly came out quite easily compared the passenger's side plastic plug.
However the sensor itself is different. I was lead to believe the sensors on both sides were identical and they are not.
Did anyone else run into this same situation?
Is there a different part number for the driver's side?
Is there a link to the driver's side sensor from China source on ebay?
