Hi everyone,
Today I have noticed that I have a dent size of a golf ball on my roof. Did anyone had something similar? I want to do paintless dent repair and I was wondering if anyone did it? Since I am living in DC area can anyone suggest good body shops where they can paintless dent repair. Thanks!!!

Did it happen to be on the crease? I only ask because I have one there and heard it's hard to fix. I still think I bought it like that and I never noticed it... on the passenger side behind the door.

ss55,
The roof is a tough spot to do paintless dent repair because they have to be able to get a rod behind the dent. Sometimes they will suggest drilling into an inconspicuous spot in order to gain access to the spot behind the dent. That's obviously not an attractive option. They might be able to get to it from the inside by going under the roof panel. I used a mobile Dent Wizard type of service in the past. I can look up his number tonight but I think he is in the Baltimore area not DC.

I am not in the DC area but I did ust get a dent out of the hood via Dent Wizard with amazing results. I agree that the roof is a difficult spot to get out and like MDS5 suggested worth a call.

Not the greatest pick with my cell phone but you get the idea. It had to be made with a car door. The paint is not broken but it would still look like a very, very small scratch with the dent taken out.

I have a very small dent in the divers side rear panel. What would the dentless technology be for this? Would you need to get behind the rear panel and how would you do this in an A5?

Thanks

The quarter panels are a little easier [especially on the A5/S5]. Because the 1/4 panels are pretty open inside once you remove the tail lamp. I just repaired a dent on my right rear 1/4 panel right above the wheel on the body line.

In your case they would need to remove the left rear 1/4 panel tail lamp. Once this is removed they'll have access to the most of the panel. No need for drilling a hole for this repair as there is plenty of room to navigate around inside of the panel.

All this talk of drilling holes etc. would have me worried too - but I've seen dents removed on door panels simply by suction - they attach a "cup" to the panel to cover the area of the dent and then apply enough suction pressure to pull it back out. Obviously depends where the dent is but is by far the best way I've seen.

Drilling a hole is a last resort, IMO. Although if done correctly and in certain area you'd never be able to tell a hole was drilled as the manufacturer has access holes throughout the entire car with black hole plugs covering them, which is the same thing I'd do [if needed]. Yeah, you can remove a bigger dent with a suction cup [as I have one] but in the 16 years I've been repairing dents; I've only used it maybe twice. Even if you remove the bigger dent with the suction cup, then dent still requires actual pushes [from the backside of the dent] with actual tools to fully remove the dent.

If the OP would post up a photo, I could tell him more about his actual repair process. We now use a glue pulling process that does not require any drilling. The glue pulling process is aggravating but with persistence, you can remove a dent. I don't use this process unless I cannot access a dent from the backside. Actually working the dent [rather than glue pulling] is much faster and a better repair IMO, but then again I am usually working on automobiles that I already have taken fully apart like the headliner, hood, deck lid, etc. so access is not a problem.

In the OP's case, he could find someone to remove the dent by glue pulling or possibly access it thru the sunroof but that would depend on where the dent is.

DentMasters fix Acorn Dents too

I had a similar find two weeks ago. I discovered a dime-size dent in the trunk deck lid. I could not recall any occasion where that could have occurred. The last person to touch the car other than me was the deal for a state inspection, but that should not have been a factor.

Dent Masters in Tyson's corner 703-391-6879 are miracle workers.
They had it gone in 90 minutes. Fortunately they found an entry point in the side of the lid for their tools without drilling. I also had the fix a small door dent last year.

The tech (George) that did the work said is was probably an acorn that did it !! I can believe that, since my driveway is surrounded by 70-100' oak trees and we have a ton of acorns falling. I had the car out of the garage in the driveway for some clean-up work. The tech says he sees that all the time this time of year.

So, keep your car under cover when they drop if you can.

Deck lids, fenders, hoods, doors, 1/4 panels and roofs will not require drilling is the inner trim is removed. So everyone get the drill out of your mind; almost any small dent can be removed without drilling as long as the trim is removed for access. Even the OP's dent can be removed without drilling, it may required removing headliner but it can be done. It's a lot of work but it can be done right, you just need to find the right qualified guy.
