Defective Air quality sensor stops HVAC blowing cold?

so my air con was working great, one day stops blowing cold, like completely, no cold at all.

I checked the VCDS thing and the HVAC shows an error timed exactly when I noticed it wasn't working, referring to the G238 sensor in the cent. elec module. which shows a fail 014 defective sensor 10 seconds earlier.

earlier scans of the car had no fault here, its a new one.

so it certainly seems that this has stopped the air con totally, and I've ordered a new sensor, which will take a few days to arrive. anyone know a way I can bypass or disable this check so that I can get some cold air for the so-called UK heatwave that's coming?

disabling auto recirculation in MMI doesn't bring it back online btw.

I was thinking perhaps I can unplug it but I'm sure that will just throw some other error instead.

the answer to this appears to be no.

unplugging the G238 sensor just reports the sensor as missing.
coding the sensor out of the 09 module results in the same thing (as if you unplugged it)

I replaced the sensor last week (two minute job, its under the plastic panel below the windscreen, just turns out and unplugs), cleared the codes, did a basic settings. now shows everything OK but still no aircon.

VCDS check shows around 6 bar pressure.

i'm having it regassed today to see if its as simple as that and in fact I hadn't noticed it not working for some time due to the English weather. I didn't think the gas expired though, if there is still pressure then it should still work?

I've just come back from having it re-gassed, and it made no difference at all :(
I should probably start a new thread as this no longer is about the sensor.
