This is what worries me with this. It looks like a design flaw or bad materials (though the outer roof appears to be the same material as on the A4 I had). Unless Audi come up with a mod or redesign of the roof soon, can we look forward to replacing the outer skin of the roof every couple of years (well until the warranty runs out anyway)!!!

Does the A4 roof fold in the ssame way. Its the point where its folded tight in 3 ways that's wearing. Anyone on here with a A4 care to check

Update !!

Went to the dealer today and basically what they did was to take photos and then they will pass them onto to Audi for them to comment on. Apparently it will take approx a week before they get back to me so I will update again then.:wall::wall::wall:
Looks like this may take some time to resolve.

I had an A4 Cab. The roof opening action was not the same. On the A4 the front third opened first then the rear window opened up (as per the A5). The A4 did not suffer this issue which might have been due to the main part of roof not being under tension as the A5 one is when the rear window section opens.

I think we all need to raise this as an issue. If Audi HQ starting getting a few reports then they might take action. May be go to Audi HQ direct?

I have a feeling this is what my dealer suspects (but would not say).

I think I'll take a few photos at the weekend and drop Audi UK an email and see what they come back with...

Just watched a a4 roof on youtube, roof seems to fold in a similar way round the back window

I have the mark too.. 12,000km and just over 1 year old..

The difference is on the A4 Cab the front third of the roof detaches from the top of the window screen as the rear window section folds to the vertical position to allow clearance to the storage box lid. On the A5 the roof remains connected to the window screen until the storage box lid is out of the way. I therefore suspect that the main part of the roof on the A5 cab is still under tension when the rear window moves. On the A4 Cab it is not.

Note: I suspect the change was made to allow roof operation at, up to, 30MPH. The A4 Cab you had to be stationary (or near as makes no difference).

I dont know how many cab owners there are on this forum, but i would be interested if everyone could check this wear area on the roof. Also the age of the car

Have the marks - 1 Sept 2009

let the battle commence!!

Any update?
Yep sure is, for what its worth!.

As expected when the dealer contacted me this afternoon he said Audi would not cover it under the warranty, and suggested it was damage done by storing the roof while damp. I very politely with gritted teeth told him I am fully aware that this should not be done and have NEVER done so.

He said there are no records of defects of this type that he (Reading Audi) know about, but he would not comment about Audi UK. I then asked about how many complaints they need before something is done, again he would not commit but said most recalls are down to customer complaints the more they have the more they are likely to act upon.

He suggested for now that I ‘keep an eye on it’ and if it gets worse take it back to him and he will take more pictures. (Fat chance of getting much more top off weather in the UK until after my warranty runs out!).

So I will now register my complaint with Audi UK and see what happens.

He is going to put a note on my records that I have raised the issue within the warranty period, that if a recall is ever done after my warranty runs out they will back me up. ( I won’t hold my breath though).

Thanks for the info, I beleive we should all report the problem to our respective Audi entity (in my case Audi of America), it seems like a major defect in a part that will likely cost thousands to replace if not done under warranty/recall.

At magi's request (via PM), I've made this thread a 'sticky'.

Please keep to the subject of the OP and keep other owners informed of any developments with your dealer(s) regarding the roof wear issue.

I'll monitor this thread and will remove any irrelevant posts.

Thanks Reb and support Magi's request to make this a sticky

Once you have spoken to your dealers, for those who don't have the details, Audi UK Customer Services can be contacted here customer.service@audi.co.uk

If you wish to escalate you can find the CEO's email from this link, but I wouldn't recommend this as a first port of call: CEO e-mail addresses - UK - USA - EU - Asia

Cheers
