Best tyre size for my A5

Hi folks,

I just got myself a 2014 A5 TDI. The tyres on it are budget and will need changing on the front pretty soon. So I will just change the lot. It's not a Quattro and it has 19" rotors.

I am pretty confident in the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s as I had the Pilot Super Sports on my 5 series previously and they were awesome.

I just want to know about the size, currently I have 255/35 R19Y. But when I look at the rim it pokes out quite a bit more that the tyre. I was wondering could I put on a 265 to try and give a better buffer from getting curbed? Will I get any degredation in performance from these wider wheels?

What would you recommend in terms of wheel size?
I drive through a lot of country lanes and often in wet wheather, can you think of better tyres than the Michelin PS4S?

Thanks!!

Congrats on the new A5... sure you will love it. I utilized the following site when sourcing my 20's (great for figuring out offsets as well)

Rimsntires.com

Best of luck in your search!

Congrats on getting your A5 TDI!

As long as you keep the wheel diameter as close to the original 26", you should be good. The next wider tire in the 19-inch size for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is 265/35ZR-19 which has an overall diameter of 26.3". That's 799 revs per mile vs 790 revs per mile. The speedometer reading will be a tad bit higher, e.g. 65mph vs 65.7mph.

You cannot go any wider than a 265 tire which is good for a 9" to 10" wheel rim. If your original wheel rim is the 8.5" wide variety, the 265 tire won't be a good fit.
