Advice on mods to standard B8.5 3.0 exhaust

If you want more noise than std an X pipe is the way to go imho. I literally bought one as soon as they released them as like you I wanted more sound from the V6.
After waiting 4 weeks it arrived and for me it worked great. It made the car have more sound and enhanced the throttle response, and I did not find it to be raspy and it worked well with the custom map.

I cant comment on wrapping the exhaust but Dave Kwattro has an X pipe fitted to his car and wrapped his system and will probably add a comment when he sees this post. His system is custom but does sound sweet
I have a full Milltek system now and I replaced the front box after the downpipes with a Milltek X pipe and sound wise there was not a great deal of difference ,but the gas flow has improved and it does sound good.

My x pipe was the ECS one and originally it was designed for the S4 3.0t but it does fit the S5 perfectly if you ignore the instructions on where they say to cut your std system.
The Milltek is louder than your stock exhaust due to its increased pipe diameter 2.37 inches opposed to 2' and better flow characteristics, but not overy loud.
Cold start up it does roar a little but settles down quite quickly.

Nice work with the exhaust mate.
The awe track exhaust is a bit louder as it is 2.5 inch straight through and imho sounds to much all of the time.
This is the one I sold last December Awe track exhaust
I have been working on a custom milltek set up which should sound sound like the awe touring system when I get this added :

I get your point Dave, as hindsight is a wonderful thing.
However it is more satisfying when you put time and effort and R & D into your own work and it turns out sweet.
I have made a custom miltek system now, despite Milltek telling me a V8 mid section won't fit on a v6 system.
My current set up consist of : Milltek non resonated downpipes, Milltek X pipe front section, V8 non resonated mid/centre section(£60 mint),and std Milltek back boxes(rear).
There is no drone and the system is not overly loud which is what I was looking to achieve 😉.

Yep, just bore size check when fitting V8 pipes, that's the only difference.
Dave the bore on the v8 middle section is 2.37 inches which is exactly the same bore size as a std milltek system,so it fitted like a glove. I just had to remove 3 inches to mate up to the X pipe.
Milltek resonated system includes - 2 x downpipes,1 x front silencer, 1 x mid silencer ,2 back boxes,quad tips

Milltek non resonated system includes - 2 x downpipes, 1 x front silencer,1 x mid silencer,2 x straight pipes,quad tips.

Mý current system - 2 x milltek downpipes, 1 milltek X pipe,1 x milltek v8 non resonated centre section, 2 x milltek backboxes,quad tips.

Happy new year to you all.
Smokey Joe, how did the new exhaust mods go?

I know what you mean Joe, I drove a std 3.0 tdi back from Halifax recently and the lack of noise made a nice refreshing change when travelling over distance.
Removing the middle section on your exhaust will increase the sound/gas flow, but due to the baffles in your backboxes it will not sound overly loud and may well be the sound your looking for.
Keep us posted on how it turns out as this thread may well be useful to others who are thinking of getting more sound out of their V6.

Had my 1st blast of 2021 yesterday and flew past an S7 who was giving it plenty on the A46 yesterday .

A meet up sounds great when we get back to normal and I will bring a couple of mates along for a beer and a chat.

Leadfoot I hope you have a bit more info on the route you wish to proceed with your exhaust now, as Joe, Dave, and myself have pretty much gone: non resonated downpipes, X pipe or straight through mid section, straight to the back boxes.
This despite all 3 systems being different we are all happy with the outcome.

Just to add to this thread, I thought the maximum size tailpipe size you could go to on a standard backbox was 3.5 inches.
However met DJ switch at Mrc yesterday and he has dual 4' pipes fabricated on a std backbox and they look sweet.

Hi Dave, I was a bit surprised when I saw the tail pipes as they looked like mine. When I looked under the car he still had the 2 std pipes and the tips were tapered and welded on.
He did say the exhaust guy he used ,said it took some work to get them to sit right.
His exhaust is all std only the tips are different.
