Checked around before posting and I couldn't find anything so I apologize if this is a repost.

I have a 2008 S5 6 speed. When I use my "Engine Start" button, I get a chime and a warning indicator on the instrument cluster that says "Advance Key Defective. Use Ignition Lock". The doors lock and unlock, and trunk release features on the key work properly, no issues there at all. The car operates normally when using the key in the ignition lock but obviously I'm concerned, so I called my local Audi dealer. The service advisor instructed me to replace the battery in the key fob because if the battery is not producing at least 3.0 volts, the Engine Start button feature will not work. He said the system can be deceiving because the door locks and trunk release features WILL operate normally even if the battery voltage is low but the battery still may not have enough voltage for the key fob to produce the frequency for the Engine Start button to work. I replaced the battery as instructed, and I'm still having the exact same issue. Door lock and unlock and trunk release features operate normally, but the Engine Start feature is totally inoperative. :wall: Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I had a similar problem, I had the dealership, check the vehicle wiring according to the wiring diagram and guided fault finding, they didn't find any errors with the vehicle wiring. Had them replace the Convenience System Control Module (not cheap).

It has been three weeks now and all is working well. Hope this comment helps.

If you suffer with this issue its one of 3 things:
1: you need to replace the battery in your remote
2: One of your 3 antennas are defective, 1s in the boot, 1st in the passenger door, 1st under the central compartment
3: (very unlikely) somehow your key has become defective- however Ive never seen this reported

A scan will reveal 2, trial with show method 1.

Interesting. The other day I tried to use my spare key fob but the battery was dead. So I purchased a pack of 2 Duracell batteries (mine uses the CR2032 or similar but please check your old one when you do it) and just to be sure I changed them both. My spare one was so flat that it would not even open the doors!!

***Sorted*** Turns out one of the connectors(drivers side) in the lower rear of the door panel had come loose... as soon as I reconnected it system started working. Glad to have averted having to start changing pout parts trying to chase electrical gremlins[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
