@Rick Crann -- I believe A3 models got the next generation MIB MMI systems before the B9 A4/A5/Q5 models (starting in MY2016 for EU/RoW). If the software version in your S3 doesn't start with "HN+", you're in the wrong place (and the process described by @mubmoh does not apply to your cars). --g
to add to previous post…
I went through “standard” option to install both firmware & then maps. Followed to the instructions given in notes.
do I have to go through “user defined” option & select all application for UK maps?
after installation (took only 5 minutes) it doesn’t show Nav version.
mid there something I am doing wrong?
plz help

Thanks for this post - I have exactly the same issue with a recent A1 import from Japan, namely the radio and sat nav don't pick up UK stations/locations. Could anyone recommend someone in the South West (UK) who might be able to do this work for me as i don't have any of the kit/software required. Many thanks in advance.
Hi did you find a solution to your Japanese import issue?

Thanks for the thread and all the information. The job has been complete (and hopefully stays so)! The car is on media version HN+EU_AU210_K09000 and has been successfully converted. The radio stations now come up by name thanks to this update, everything is in English (+ optional ROW language) and info page doesn't have static freq anymore either. Shout out to @congo for providing the DL links, and also @DrGER whose comments throughout the threads (across the years) really gave me insight. I have learnt a lot through the process of this. Also there were many other contributors who shared useful information in snippets, once you go through them all you can build a great picture.

Here are images of the Japanese MMI unit if anyone is interested.

Assalam brother,
Hope you are fine. I am having same issue as you had, icon without text. Now I got OBD11 pro, plz tell me how to resolve this issue.

Language HMI system en_JP
language NAVI TTS: en_JP

What update or coding did you apply to resolve this issue?
Look forward to your reply.
Thanks.

The Japan radios although they can be converted are not tuned for the full frequancy range here in the UK. I have done a tonnnn of Conversions and always the same. Although you can select the channels the reciever itself is not tuned for the additional frequncies. Most with 3G+ just live with it because of the bluetooth streaming available to those units. With 3G High units we normally replace the radio with a UK spec one with DAB.

Hi guys new to this forum. I have bought a 2016 Audi Q3 Jap import here in Ireland. Radio frequency in Japanese. Any idea how a novice with limit tools can change the frequency to irish frequency
Thanks

Welcome. I assume you read this thread. It’s not a straight forward task.

Hi, looking for someone to convert 3 Jap Audi imports A1, A4 and Q5, could you get in contact with me DavidB8 please. Just signed up to the forum but it will not let me send you a private message

Welcome. I assume you read this thread. It’s not a straight forward task.
I have read it can be done with OBD Eleven kit and app but not sure if need to pay fro subscription to access the necessary functions to carry out the radio change from Japanese to Europe. I have a youtune vid, and if anyone can say this works or don't work or do i need to pay subscriptions fee.

I have a Japanese Audi A1 Import car 2012 3 Door White. My MMI should be replaced to UK unit. I would like to get some suggestion from you because I am really struggling to find the replacement one. Let me know if i can get some help and I have spent more than 6 months sitting out this. This is my last hope.

All the UK units have the same pins
Only German and Japanese units are same like mine
The orange cable which is plugged in is the new one and the cables are different in the Japanese unit

Looking for eeprom dump for A1 JP , @mumboh would you have a back up by any chance ? This thread has been very helpful in identifying issues with the unit. The car has been bought with broken mmi unit and no comms via vcds . Serial connection and flashing firmware did not help. Eeprom showed no data which is odd ... so can't take a back up. I would seem that there was some sort of issue with battery also as it was fully drained when car arrived- not sure if it is related.

Attempting to flash with correct language in eeprom yielded some results but not successful . I suspect some hardware issues with the unit , given the below error aswell as the fact that MOST was not available from the start so no VCDS ( although could be broken circuit (?) ). Anyone has any clue / guidance what could be wrong with the unit so atleast know wheather to continue or donate it for parts :) @DrGER would you know if 3GP units prone to memory failures ?

Based on these pictures Which connection is for GPS Antenna ??

@frank087234 -- Your A1 main unit has FAKRA HSD connectors for the display (gray) and USB/iPod data (curry), and the coax GPS cable (blue). If the car is configured for nav, you should find the blue GPS connector in the space behind the main unit in the instrument panel. --g

Yes the blue connector is present at back of unit but nothing attached to it..I think the lead attached is missing or removed by the car dealer. I want to know how it looks like from both ends so I can order it.
Thank you

The Fakra connectors are crimped on using special tools. You can buy a fakra extension (green connectors) that have a universal fitting. You would have to solder the connection but it may be subject to interference unless its screened correctly.
