Hey, all. Recently we moved in a new house and it's a bit old and it needs renovation. I was thinking of starting with the windows and I was wondering if we need some kind of permit to do that. And which windows are the best out there?

Good choice. The windows is always a good start. Buy some of good quality, they will serve you for years.

Whether you need a permit or not, depends on the work you are going to execute. Replacement of windows can be as simple as replacing the existing windows that already have their own “inserts” and are istalled in the existing frame of the old window. For this type of a replacement, you don't need any structural alterations. Also there is no permission required for this type of window replacement. However, you need to be aware that in the replacement of windows, you must still comply with regulations related to safety glazing and emergency egress. A permit will be required if the replacement of your windows involves the removal of the existing wood or metal sashes, or if alterations are made to the existing opening.
