Just wondering about why you maybe first of all bought an Audi, or have you been with other brands and changed recently?

Me, I'd have to say ever since the original Audi quattro was launched, I had a soft spot for the marque. The Group B quattro was so appealing to me as a teenager in the 80s, I knoew I wanted one, and watching Walter Rohrl and Michelle Mouton piloting the cars through tight stages, gravel, snow and tarmac, its just made me want one of my own.

Course I couldnt afford it at school, nor could I drive :p , but it still was a dream.

I guess I see the S5 as a distant great grandson of the quattro maybe, its a coupe of course, with bigish power and awd of course. Its a kinda dream fulfilled for me actually, glad I got here. I know there are many more expensive cars out there and better cars, but the S5 is a perfect package for me right now, and I'm not even sure what better vehicle I could replace it with that would fill as many roles and tick as many boxes for me :)

I think you already put it the best way. The S5 just hit so many of the right buttons with me. Great looks, awesome power, and a extremely handsome interior. I was definitely seeking the best interior i could get for my money because I do a fair amount of driving everyday and I want my cockpit to be as comfortable as possible. Since audi makes the best interiors in its class, I had my answer. And of course I am a power monger, so I am addicted to speed. Audi just seemed to get everything right for the S5. Really cant wait til it gets in :)

What made me buy my first Audi was that I just wasn't up for a BMWbecause every tom, dick n harry had one. Mercedes was a bit too old manish for me so Audi it was.

It was the interior for me. I looked in every single brand and didn't like any of them compared to the audi. I remember when I bought my used A6 I test drove a 2002 or something bmw 318 and the interior was worse than my friends 1985 corolla that we used to go to high school in and it was more money than the loaded 4.2 A6.

My dad always had high end BMW's/Mercs and Porsches growing up and i never took the slightest bit of interest in cars, untill he bought the S4 avant, i was about 12/13 then and fell in love with it. I adored that car and anything audi there after.

I plan on buying an old bi turbo S4 sometime soon.

Ive had all sorts Jags Mercs Saab's but when I purchased my Mk1 TT in 03 I was hooked. I drove the TT all through France & Spain covering 3,500 miles in 16 days and it never missed a beat. The interior of the Audi is what all other manufacturers by their own admission strive to achieve. When I first laid eyes on the A5 as a finished product I thought wow and I have never wanted any other car. All in all I am very pleased with my Audi :D :D

The first Audi I have ever been in is the old 89 Coupe Quattro I bought while stationed in Germany. I found it to be a fantastic little car! They didn't make any coupes for a long time (I think they stopped in 1994 in germany, and 91 in the US), and the only newer cool looking coupe was the BMW 3 series. Before I went to Kuwait, an officer at my unit took me around to get stuff done, and drove me around in his new 328i coupe. I thought it was cool! Fast forrward about a year... I find out Audi has a new coupe!! After testing a BMW 335xi, and getting into an Audi Coupe, I was totally sold on the Audi. It looks better, interior is better, and it took them long enough to make another coupe :)

My story is nearly identical. I loved the ur-quattro. I did manage to buy a (very) used 1982 coupe when I finished university, but it was totalled within a few months. Now, IMO Audi has the best overall package - interior, design, performance. I can't see myself in anything else.

I chose Audi because I enjoy being teased. Just like strippers I enjoy giving them money with the illusion of being giving something in return but never actually being givin anything sex or a sexy car.

HAHA.

Aiden,

My story is a bit interesting. On summer vacation in (your) Ireland a couple years ago, when renting a car from Avis at the Shannon Airport, they gave me a practically brand new A3, sportback model. I had told them I was going to be driving all around the country and wanted to have something fun and sporty, so the manager there said "I have just the car for you...." It was truly the best car to have on the roads, sun roof and eveything, made my 3 week tour enjoyable and fun.

I currently have a Porsche Boxster and looking forward to my A5 that should arrive in a couple weeks. Audi needs to credit Avis for influencing my purchase.

This did !! Well not this actual one, thats mine on handover day - but one just like it, gleaming away in the showroom. When the Salesman put the ignition on and those DRL's came on I was reaching for my chequebook...

I clocked one (Meteor S5) parked in the car park at Old Trafford from 100m (Yeh yeh, Man Utd fan blah de blah!!). The car just looked better the closer I got. At the time I made the decision I wanted one I knew nothing of DRLs or exhaust note etc. Checked out the Audi website and the following week (following a test drive) I placed the order. The rest I learned from you guys on this forum during the wait for delivery. Pretty impulsive but absolutely no regrets.

Came out of a run of a few BMs and agree with Jen, Audi quality is noticably better. Engine wise, I'm undecided at the moment, it's a very different drive to any BM I've driven and I love it.

BTW Blade, your car looks stunning in the photo :D

Was after a new car and was going to get a BMW, when in one of the villages I drive home through I saw a A5 2.7 which was so stunning that I suddenly got thinking about an Audi.

Went to BMW and Audi (they right across from each other in Peterborough) booked test drive and the following week had drive in A5 3.0 TDI sport then across to the Beemer garage and but as soon as we sat in the car me and the wife both said er no it just feels like going back in time after the A5. Finished day of with 2 hrs in the S5:D . Loved it, one of the best looking cars on the market (DB9 Aside) I think and inside is just exquisite.

Just wondering about why you maybe first of all bought an Audi, or have you been with other brands and changed recently?
My first Audi was one of the first A4s - a 1.8T Sport, which I bought new in 1995. My previous cars had been a 1.6 Ford Escort (dull but reliable) and 1.3 Astra Mk1 (terrible, terrible car that was a complete dog in every way). I had been set on a 3 series coupe, but the Audi A4 was a lot cheaper, especially as at that time BMW hardly included anything as standard, so I went for the Audi. Got a good deal as well.

Never looked back since - now on my 4th Audi (all from new) and although the total amount of depreciation I must have suffered over the last 12+1/2 years must be horrendous (somewhere the wrong side of £50k) it's been worth it, and I've not seriously looked at anything else.

BMWs are all ugly, although the 3 series coupe does have a certain road presence, Mercs are poorly made and over-priced and for me, it has to be German as the quality just can't be matched. Alfas are pretty but unreliable, and I'd never walk back through the door of one of their dealers after suffering appalling service from the sales team when looking at a GTV. The most important part of any car for me is the interior - it's where you spend the majority of your time with a car, not looking at the outside of it. The fact that the A5 is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous is just an added bonus for me - it's all about the interior, and Audi are just miles ahead of the competition.

Anyway, guess I'm now a fully paid-up Audi-phile, and can't think I'll ever go for anything else. That said, it's not all perfect in the world of Audi - the Q7 is pig ugly, the A6 is dull and not a great drive and the A3 is an over-priced Golf. The new A4 is a bit of a disappointment as well after the excitement of the A5. The A5/S5 and R8 more than redress the balance though!

I got into them due to a work colleague. I passed my test and could finally make use of my car allowance/company car. My colleague at the time was looking at buying an S3, so I flew with him to Dusseldorf in Germany as he was buying there given the diffference in prices back then.

I was just impressed by the brand overall, the service delivered and the quality of the cars in terms of finish and performance. So I started with a 1.8T A3 for a couple of years, then moved to a 180 TT, then onto a 225 TT, into an A8 for a while, then a 1.8T A4 S-Line for a few years. When it came to looking what to get next late last year, I did consider the A6 as I had really liked the A8 but I just looked wrong it in given I'm in my twenties.

Audi Fleet sent an A6 to me for the weekend which was a lovely car, but then I heard that the A5 was being updated with a baby model (1.8T). So Audi Fleet kindly sent me a 3.0 TDI to drive over a long weekend to see what I thought of the car, and a week later were able to get me their first 1.8T demonstrator for another weekend test. I really liked the 3.0 and did seriously consider going for it, but when I drove the 1.8T and did all the company car tax calcs it made more sense to me to get the 1.8T as I wasn't sacrificing too much given the car is more for my daily 120-mile commute to the office.
