Anyone using a V1 radar detector ? Just installed it from my other car. I get a lot of bogies being set off consistently. Suspect there is something in the car that is triggering it. Anyone else with the same problem or any ideas ?

Yep, it's likely being caused by the Side Assist feature on your car. See this post from member Boomer who decided to switch to an Escort 9500xi after experiencing those same problems with his V1.

I am using a Cobra detector and I have no problems.
Maybe there is a problem with the wiring?

Not a problem with the wiring. It happens in my wife's 09 A4 with side assist as well. Same V1 in 08 S5 no problem so it has to be with the side assist feature. Really, Really like the escort passport 9500xi though.

Thanks Ebaines, I just changed the programming and will see how it goes. Now have some protection in wife's car also. I do miss the arrows but not all the false positives the V1 gives compared to the escort passport 9500ix. V1 needs to update a bit given how old it is and most recent reviews comfirming it is falling behind the competition.

A comment on the Escort Pasport 9500.
I just had the 9500ci installed (with the mini-controls mounted in what used to be ashtray). I did not care much about the GPS feature including marking out false alarms but this feature is actually really nice. Overall, I am super happy with the unit. Stealth setup outside and inside and great performance.

It's the side assist. Turn off that band for the detector and you'll be good to go...it's a rarely used police frequency anyway. I'm running that plus a laserstar jammer with no problems.
Does anybody know what frequency the Side Assist uses? Is there anyway to deactivate the frequency that SA uses, without having to disable the entire K band and/or the POP feature?

All you need to do is to de-activate the POP feature on your V1. It will then work flawlessly with your side assist. The POP feature is not needed anyways. Most other brands of detectors ship from the factory with the POP feature disabled.

Don't you want POP enabled? I mean, I just had my V1 updated and they put the POP feature on it, so it seems like I just wasted $130 to have them update it only to disable the newest feature?

What band does it use? I have found cops on the parkway using Laser one day and then X Band the next. Very sneaky.

You do NOT need to change from the V1 to some other detector. I had the same problem with my S5, and found that deactivating the POP feature solved it. See: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp and look at the section on disabling POP (feature character "J").

I recently put in my Valentine One in my 2009 S5 that does have side assist. I do seem to get a lot of "rear" alarms, but I don't have POP enabled on my Valentine One.

My version for the V1 is 3789, which I've had for a least 9-10 years. So this can't be my problem.

I've just done some testing a reprogrammed my V1 to "Mute the rear K band" which is the frequency and signals I was picking up. Unfortunately even though it is muted the lights and arrows still seem to be going off a lot the time. What all did you guys do to reprogram your V1 in this car?

That's what I did to fix the Side Assist issue, and I don't see the arrows any more. However, my V1 is newer than yours, so maybe you need a firmware update?

Danman and anybody else...

Do you recommend the laserstar jammer? I'd like to have this for "fun" sorta, mainly just to have an added layer of protection to stupid tickets.. I'm not a speed breaker much but just keeps me safer..

I called Valentine One and spoke to them about the problem I'm having. They are sending my an "updated" cigarette adaptor and a hard wire module to "see" if it will help with the problem.

I asked why or how and updated hard wire module and/or a cigarette lighter adaptor would possibly fix/remedy the problem and she said we should at least try it first.

So I should receive my adaptors in a few more days and I'll post up my results. I don't see how a new adaptor is going to fix the problems. I will more than likely just disable the K band and live with it like it is. From my experience even when I disable the Audi Side Assist, I still get alarms. So turning off Side Assist has warranted no acceptable results.

As noted above if this new adaptor doesn't work [which I believe won't] I may have to send it in to get it updated.

Holy Sh!t, the updated software/firmware is $161 freaking bucks, that's almost half of what it costs brand new. Why would an updated need to cost that damn much, that's ridiculous. If I can't get this working correctly I may have to get rid of the V1 and look at other manufacturers radar detectors.
