Has anyone looked at the price of the S5 and now the A5 in the US compared to here?

An A5 with the extras that I am interested in works out to be around £40,000 here. If I go for a fully spammed up A5 in the US, it would cost between £25K-£26K.

I always new there was a difference, but this is a huge price difference.

I guess the next thing I need to find out is if you can order a UK spec car in the US!

Anyone have any comments?

There have been a number of posts and discussions on this topic - try a search for posts. I would sayn tat it is unlikely that you can order a UK spec vehicle in the US... and the deliveries are horrendous due to 'port hold'. God Knows what the shipping and import taxes will be like. In the EU however, you should not be denied the opportunity to order a car in local currency from any country. You will be required to pay import duty for the UK though.

I think the port hold nightmare is over, but that doesn't take much away from the rest of your analysis.

It would seem you pay 10% import duty, and then obviously you would have to pay VAT. But you would lose the local sales tax in the US too.

It should cost between £600 and £1,200 to ship it across the pond. So it still could be a VERY attractive price. Oh, plus about 1.5% of the vehicles value in insurance.

But I think you're right...the big problem would be buying a UK spec car through a US dealer.

I think it is very interesting that Audi can afford to sell A5s at that price in the US though! Me thinks their pricing policy is based on what people are willing to pay rather than what it costs to make!
