Transmission malfunction: you may continue driving (Limited funcionality)

Hi, I have a 2011 2.0 A5 S-Line 7-Speed Auto S-Tronic and got the above message when driving yesterday. It beeped on 3 separate occasions when driving at normal speeds.
There is no difference when driving, car drives fine and also sounds fine wothout issues, performance also hasn’t been affected, e.g gear shifts are smooth etc.

anyone got any idea what it could be?

You'll need a diagnostic scan to read details of the DTC(s) behind the warning. How many miles has the car done and how many transmission services have their been?

Ditto on Dippy's reply.

I experienced the same on my 2013 A4 and was corrected with a transmission software update.

Depending on de fault code, but based on the type of gearbox (DL501) and age of the car my guess would be a faulty gear position sensor (P179E). Gearbox needs to come off and you will be replacing clutch and flywheel when everything is open. Expect a 3000/4000 euro repair. Other option could be the Mechatronic, better repairable as it is not inside the gearbox.
