TORSEN DIFFERENTIAL

Something to think about.
On Quattro equipped vehicles, Audi currently recommends no more than 2.5mm tread difference front/rear.
They say this is ensures the Torsen Differential is not being overworked.

MATHS
Using for this a standard 255/35R19 wheel & given that new tyres have 8mm tread depth.
2.5mm tread difference F/R, the Torsen Diff will be idling @ 6 revolutions per mile or 6rpm @ 60mph
5mm tread difference F/R, the Torsen Diff will be idling @ 12 revolutions per mile or 12rpm @ 60mph
Doesn’t seem too much of a problem to me as the frequency is SO low.
But AUDI is clearly concerned over something............

What do you think guys?

They have said this about all Quattro cars for a good few years now I believe, regardless of whether they are Torsen or Haldex.
