I am just about to take the plunge and order the S5. For me, a big deal, it will stretch me to the limit but am an Audi fan thru and thru. Just looking on the web I am concerned that Audi is proposing to launch an RS5!! What will happen to the residuals on my S5 when the R version launches!!! Good site by the way, I have to lie to the wife and tell her I'm just looking at porn.

The RS5 will be quite a step above the S5 in performance if the rumors are true. Delivery is supposed to be no earlier than Spring 2008 (most likely late 2008). Pricing will be quite a bit above the S5. IMHO, the RS5 will not have a lot of effect on the S5/ A5 sales other than to make the car more mainstream popular. This if anything will help your value.

3 Things.

Firstly, the RS version is always in the latter half of the product cycle and so expect +/-3 years before you will see one.

Second, it was confirmed to me by Audi 8 weeks ago that there is definately NOT an RS5 iminant.

Thirdly, If you spent your life waiting for what was next round the corner, you would never buy anything.

And as an observation, the S5 is immensly practical for daily use with comfort and quietness high on the agenda. I suspect any eventual RS5 will be aimed at the new M3 (15k more)and subsiquently a different marketplace.

Live for the now, buy one today :D :D :D

I agree with all the comments here, the RS5 is a completely different machine so I would not expect it to hurt the S5 value at all. The customer that buys the RS5 is often different than the person that buys the S5 so you won't see a big drop in price once the RS5 comes out.

RS5 will be a considerable leap up in terms of performance and more importantly Price. I think S5 prices are going to be fairly solid. Once they hit the roads i see a lot of BMW 5 series guys wanting one. They are going to be a very good car at a good price.

I predict prices will hold firm and the RS5 will have little to no impact on that
