browsing thru audis website there are pics of interiors of cars , under my hazard light switch is a blank, on the pics there is a button , whats it for

If I remember correctly, it is the warning light for the passenger air-bag. If you turn the air bag off, the light comes on and stays on. I also believe that it is 'tested' when the ignition is switched on causing it to come on briefly.

It's not a button (although it looks like one). As Reb mentioned, it's simply a warning light to advise you that the passenger airbag is off.

There's an entire thread/discussion about this warning light and how its function seems to differ between US and UK models.

Correct, this fooled me at first as on an A6 you press here to open the glove-locker.
