Strange Rattle Noise While Accelerating, Anyone Else Had This Issue??

5022 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Geo_SKG
Hi,

I picked up my Car on Friday and ever since I first drove it I'm getting a rattle type sound coming from the passenger side rear quarter? It sounds like something vibrating underneath the Car when I accelerate harder than usual??
I'm taking the Car in to the dealer tomorrow but just wondered if anyone else on here has had this issue with their A5? Hopefully it's probably just a loose exhaust clamp or something??

Cheers

It's not the "golf ball in a heavy glass jar" is it?

Mine still does that. I've yet to take it in to be seen to.
It could be the same sound but I think I can get my noise at will (although I haven't tried this yet)? A replacement muffler sounds like an obvious solution but I'll take it to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.....??
Just got back from the dealer and I'm happy to say it's all sorted! Apparently it was the exhaust heat shield rubbing against the prop shaft!
I was part of that other "golf ball rattle post". Have yet to take it to the dealer. I want to see if there is anything else before I drive an hour.

I think that is the exact problem I have. Glad to know it is a simple fix. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for reporting back BTF. It might be a while before I get the chance to take mine in, but that diagnosis sounds as though it might fit with my problem too.
Hi,

... Same here... I couldn't sleep last night so around midnight I decided to take my recently delievered A5 for a proper break-in session on the empty motorway and thought I should start putting some extra weight on the right foot when I noticed the exact same sound you mention at around 4,000 rpm when accelerating hard in 3rd and 4th gear. Tried to reproduce the sound while pushing it in 2nd but no. It does sound like an exhaust tune however what confuses me is that it really seems to be coming from somewhere between the passenger seat and the adjacent door. As you understand by now, sleeping was not an option for me for the rest of the night. Discovering this thread let the sunshine in again! So, is it really what you mentioned? Did the dealer's fix sort the issue permanently? I understand my post is a little outdated but it would be nice to know it's just a little fix to make it go for good. Thanks in advance.

Regards
George
