Just wondering what the stock S5 interior trim is? Is it piano black?

It's brushed aluminum for the 2009 US spec S5.

IMO Audi S5 gets brushed aluminium not only in US but in EU too.

It's Atlas Carbon for the EU model.

hmmm..... 16,000 miles on my car and I just noticed the return button on the console ( because it's front and center in the picture). I bet that does what I've been looking for it to do, though I never saw it.

Carbon is a cost option in the UK.

Not speaking for Europe but at least Sweden (maybe Scandinavia):
The Carbon Atlas is standard stock trim, but you can choose to change it to brushed aluminium without any additional cost. The other choices cost extra.
